I severely doubt that, the TV deal for next year is ridiculous they'll want to be involved in that.

Yes, but Lerner is not a good businessman - he's not a self-made Billionaire; he inherited his wealth from Lerner senior. Mind you, you really can't see the logic of a Billionaire scratching down the back of the sofa to try and find a few quid for his Manager...

None of us on here are self made billionaires either

Speak for yourself.

Exactly. There is a list I saw the other day. Yes it was.... Taylor-Bradford, King, Rowling, Prachett, Follett and Woodhall!

As James O'hara is back playing maybe we could make a move for him. Has a lot of fight

I didn't mean to say they're deliberately trying to relegate us, but they might have done a risk analysis to see how bad our finances would be if we spent x and went down, spent y and went down etc. And come to the conclusion that the chances of us going down are high enough that we can't risk huge expenditure in January in case the signings don't save us.

True Eastie and any new signings would probably have to have a relegation clause written into their contract any way.

Have been thinking the same to be honest, but we could still make a couple of loan signings in key areas if that is the case.

But surely if the signings didn't save us we have players who would be saleable assets to recoup that money spent on January signings?

The likes of Douglas and Sissoko are all well and good but are far from the no-brainer some make them out to be. What we need now is players who can hit the ground running and there is no guarantee that these guys, however good they are, will be able to handle the step up and change in the game that moving from the Dutch or French league would involve immediately. Look at Makoun or El Ahamadi. They would be fantastic signings if we were planning ahead and not in the mire but as things stand they are far from a no-brainer

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has told the club he wants to leave in January for personal reasons.

at least that will make them weaker .  he has done good for them ;)
