I was reading that Douglas is still at Twente.  He only has 6-months left on his contract now so should be pretty cheap.
He's a young CB, big as a house and has plenty of experience for his age however I have no idea whether he is any good or not.

Alex McLeish said as much in his interview after his first defeat.  He wants to concentrate on other areas, and I assume there's a limit on the number of players you can loan.

Fack me, what an idiot he is! He buys him for 4m and saddles us with him on a 4 year contract and now at a lower level where we're still probably paying most of his wages, he dosen't want him!

Yeah we've been linked with him loads as have Newcastle.

Worth a deal I think.

I was under the impression that while you couldn't sign a player till January, you could still discuss a deal to buy them from their clubs any time you liked. If we're only just enquiring about players now god help us - 31st January here we come

Aye. I really hope we are just dotting "I"'s on contracts right now. The notion that before Christmas we are not already in discussions for several midfielders would be worrying.

He doesn't convince me. He wasn't that good first time round.

If Huddlestone can stay injury free and yessum, that's a big if, I'd be all for it.
Not the most mobile but big, strong and a wonderful range of passing.

Douglas is a good shout too. From what I've seen of him he's exactly what we need.
I thought he'd have been a Villa player by now in fact. With our Dutch scouting recently and his suitability.

A couple of solid midfielders Barry robson and Wilson palcios. I suggest Scot Barry Robson as short term mls season break loan. Has experience and solid leadership skills. Not expensive but will be up for battle and has a sweet left foot. Also Wilson palacios he of spurs or stoke (not sure if he was on loan at stoke last season or signed) he would add some bite to midfield and loan if poss on our budget.

I liked Barry Robson as a player, but he's getting on and he's never played in the Premiership before.

I agree that when Tommy and Stefan Beinlich came to us he did not look much to shout about but he did improve.   From what I am told he continued to improve when playing in Germany.   The Premiership correspondent for Die Zeit comes in our shop on an almost daily basis and he really rated him.   I am not suggesting we should sign him.   I just like to keep tabs on past players I liked and I very much liked Tommy Hitz, for all his faults.

i agree huddlestone has a pass on him - and quite a shot. I also agree he is immobile and we need more mobility in the middle. For me huddelstones would nt be so up for the relegation battle. And robson and palacios would bring more spirit.
Also some box to box midfield would be amazing - no not jermain jeanas unfortuc too injury prone :o however someone who gets into the box and gets back a Ian Taylor/David platt  any suggestions? (James milners we wish)

Wasn't it Breitkreutz who came with Beinlich, rather that Hitzlsperger?

It was. They were here a good 8 or 9 years before Tommy Hitz.
