Palacios is one of these players who seems to have cost clubs a lot of money but he has'nt really settled anywhere since he left Wigan. Can't say i'm a big fan but he is the type of player we could do with.
are you serious , palacios is keeping himself out because so unfit , he's terrible . We don't need him

Agreed Pav, palacios is just another Ireland or nzogbia, as far from being a Hungry player as you can get, he strokes me as a guy

We did'nt need to know that Eastie.

Poor stuff  as ever clampy , thought you'd be gazing lovingly at randys photo on your wall at this time of day .
Palacios  seems Well overweight for a footballer , bit like Molby or Sammy lee , I think Scott Parker is the sort of player needed but he is injury prone and would want huge wages.

Not at all clamps, I find  many of your comments make me laugh, especially the Lerner adoration , and the mini crisis one from earlier- you always amuse me.

Anyway on a serious note do we know if lambert liked to do business early in the January window or was he like mon and waiting until the last minute?

I hope he has identified his targets already and can move quickly next week to do deals.

Friedel out for Given looks like it could be a horrendous piece of business in hindsight.

Friedel is going to complete 3 years at Spurs (and we didn't want to give him 2 years, did we?)

Given is surplus to requirements 1 year into a 5 year contract, probably on similar wages to Friedel but cost £3.5m ontop.

I thought it was a poor signing at the time and have never changed my opinion.  Not because Given isn't a good keeper but because the signs were there that he physically wasn't up to it any more, on a 2 year deal it'd have been ok but he'd never have agreed to that.

I did think we needed to replace Friedel though as he was also starting to struggle a little, I think the move to a side challenging for europe gave him a boost to make it through last year but this year he was struggling before Lloris came in to replace him.  Needed to be replaced with someone in their early 30s rather than mid thirties though.  Guzan always stood a chance of making the grade and in Seigrist we have one of the highest rated youngsters around but we did need someone for a couple of seasons.

You've got it totally wrong there, Friedel wasn't struggling at all, he was playing brilliantly and it was a total shock he got dropped. Yes he is old but he would have been good for 3 more seasons after we let him leave.
Watch a season review and see how many times he got beaten by shots that were near to his body at about thigh height, it's the telltale that a keeper is losing their reactions and he conceded 5-6 of them under houllier.

You'd think it would be a prerequisite for living there.

Arshavin reported on talks with reading, on his day he can be a top player , I remember him destroying Liverpool with a hat trick once, if he'd consider reading then surely he'd consider villa, but would lambert be able to motivate him?
He hasn't got the talent out of Ireland or nzogbia yet.

Nah, he's another one who's never overly impressed me when i've seen him either.

Strong powerful midfielder, physical presence, decent shot on him , gets stuck in at times- only worry would be his injury record- worth a loan deal for starters.

I hate to say it, but I told you so.

More than anything, this shows how treacherous the transfer market is as on many levels given was probably a "safe bet" of a signing.  Strangely within our squad it is the "safe bets" that have not stepped up, whereas the youth and squad players have generally performed to their potential and sometimes beyond.

Hopefully in the next window Lambert can ignore his usual tactics and sign some reasonably established players but in order to make room he'll have to get rid of some of our more experienced pros in order to keep the balance of the squad right.

Big fan of his since his time at Derby, physical presence and connects so sweetly with the ball.  Not massively mobile but I certainly think he could do a holding/quarter-back role in the middle

I've been told by spurs fans that "the Hud" is not the strongest mentally and despite being massive, is a bit of a wuss.  Regardless I think he'd be a good option alongside either Bannan or Westwood but I'd suggest only on loan.
