I did get excited when Daveeeed signed, what a disappointment he turned out to be.

That said, doesn't come close to the disappointement at how Collymore turned out, I was very excited when he signed.
Well I have to agree with you on this one. When he signed I thought "Wow, we really are going for it, big time". What a let-down that one was.

i have a problem with this thread and the likes of hutton and warnock being mentioned. i wouldnt ever accuse either of them of not giving their all for the club but because the quality isnt quite there that is their managers fault for playing them.to ever be bracketed with the likes of callaghan, hodge etc is wrong.
i agree both need to be replaced but neither should ever be put into the same category as the tossers mentioned above. far too quickly everyone wants a scapegoat and these are the ones we are going to pressure now!
people with short memories should think how stephen ireland has had 10 good games with the club and slagged us off, gone on loan and wanted to sign elsewhere to all of a sudden being fans player of the year, bollocks imo, and people mentioning him as a future captain and building the team round him.

Nigel callaghan was a bit before my time, can someone tell me why he was so unpopular?

He was a lazy bugger and had a poor attitude towards the club as if he didn't want to be here as far as I can remember and didn't last a whole season... idle git.

There was also an incident with a steward if I remember correctly.

Nigel Callaghan stated publicly that he wouldn't play again for Villa after enduring quite a bit of abuse for his useless displays in his first season and it didn't exactly go down well with the fans. Amazingly, he remained at Villa for a further 2 years, although he was loaned out to a few clubs and hardly played for us.

Alpay - why was he a twat?
As a Villa player he did fine, in fact for a while he was a bit of a Holte End hero, fist pumping and all that. Then he upset Sir David of Beckinghamshire and suddenly he's shite.
Strange one really.

Couldn't agree more, sources within the club at the time suggested that all the contract demands that were reported after the world cup in the press were a little way off the mark.

For me, and others I would guess, it was because he spent much of 2001-02 injured, yet once the World Cup came round he was miraculously fit. He then basically went on strike for two years.

I always hated Schmeichal, boiled my piss when he pulled on a Villa shirt... for me he was the epitome of the ref chasing spunk bubbles that played for Man U in the 90s. Not sure if he was unpopular with anyone else... but I couldn't stand him.

Dion Dublin took some stick towards the end of his Villa career as I recall.

Schmeichel wasn't very good in my opinion, wouldn't say I disliked him just no longer rated him as I felt he was way past his best (although I was at Goodison when he scored which i quite enjoyed).

I also seem to remember Alan Wright taking a lot of unfair stick towards the end of his time at B6.

Not sure if this a rubbish players thread (Bryan Small) or a non triers thread (curcic).
