The one European memory that sticks out is beating Ajax 2-1. Glorious.

The Ajax fans were brilliant that day. Noisy fuckers.

The Blackburn game for me also. It's odd, I was watching it back just last night and remembered I'd saved a snippet from this site that someone (I've forgotten who, sorry!) had found elsewhere. A Crystal Palace fan who had enjoyed the game and was posting about it;

"Absolutely fan-bloody-tastic. Great entertainment, well done BBC, well done Villa, fair play to Blackburn for giving them a game. THe flags and scarves, the pitch invasion, the Wembley songs, it makes the hairs on my arms stand on end.

Bloody brilliant.

Great match. Great great match."

Brilliant memories. Seems like a lifetime ago after the last few years!

Tell you what, it softens my bitterness towards MON a lot as well. Really good times.

One of the standouts of that era for me was beating Chelsea 2-0 at home, with Zat Knight scoring on his debut and Doug Ellis mugging off Abramovich as he left early.  Just remember it being a great atmosphere at Villa Park that day and we beat a good Chelsea side pretty comfortably.

Much as I don't like Ellis, the look on his face as he offers his hand is great.

Not as noisy as the Rapid Vienna fans!

I can't find a youtube link to it, but beating Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield in 2009.
