Hmmm Bent and Yakubu are both "guaranteed to get you goals", according to lazy pundits. So playing them both together would either perversely lead to no goals, or possibly create a wormhole in the sky over villa park.

Yakubu scores. But, he's a lazy fucker. And I don't think anyone is exactly sure how old he is... like Kanu.

After watching Given in Euro's i too would bet on a keeper

Has Guzan actually gone yet or will PL have a say on the matter?

He's a free agent so there's nothing stopping PL re-signing him if he wanted. The problem is that he won't have seen much of him so would be unlikely to sign him.

Wouldn't that therefore apply to any manager?  Or any reserve keeper?

This about as appropriate as any thread for this, but do we know what's happening with Culverhouse and Karsa?

Bit of a stand-off with Norwich over compensation I guess - equally they're holding off getting Hughton's staff from Blose.

Don`t their one year rolling contracts expire at the end of June? - Therefore no compensation due as they are free to walk?

Rolling contracts don't expire. Otherwise they'd just be one year contracts.

I just wonder whether their rolling contracts have a 'grace' period written into them before the next year begins which would allow one of the parties to exit the contract. It's so quiet that there's almost an inevitable acceptance that they will be in place in time for pre-season training. For one thing if we didn't think we could get them, moves would be being made to find others but there seems to be no such movement. In fact, Grant and MacDonald have left with speculation that Cowans is going back to the youth levels so there are positions that are just waiting to be filled.

Read somewhere today that Yakubu is being linked with a club in China.  Not someone we should be considering in my opinion.  Moving into the realms of fantasy football, I thought  Mario Mandzukic who played up front for Croatia in the Euros looked a really good player.  Still Only 26 and has a good scoring record for Wolfsburg.

Another Croatian that impressed me, especially against Spain was Gordon Schildenfeld, 27 plays for Eintracht Frankfurt. Was excellent, great reader of the game.

De Jong is on the market too from Man City. I quite fancy him down at Villa Park

Me too. I know Monty thinks he's a thug but I'm not of that opinion. Certainly not in the Cattermole/Henry/Barton bellend catgeory.

Not that I'm completely suprised but where does it say he's on the market?

He'll likely be after something a bit better than Villa, although I think he is exactly what we need.

The last I heard Nigel De Jong was after a new contract at City but if he couldn't agree one he was ready to sit out the last year of his deal and go for nothing next summer. There have been headlines about Newcastle signing De Jong but it is Luuk De Jong, a striker at FC Twente. As for the Norwich backroon staff I reckon we are waiting for Norwich to get shot of them to make room for Hughton's staff so we don't have to pay compo and Norwich are waiting for us to take them so they don't have to pay them off.
