Lampard will be the sacrificial lamb at Stamford Bridge. I doubt he'll last the season.

Good for everyone else on the league if they stick Lampard in there. As daft as OGS at Man United. That will be another gong show.

What's the betting that Chelsea would never have considered him if he hadn't been an ex-player for them?

Big mistake on Lampard’s part, huge. I can understand the draw but he’s set his career back years. Won’t be there by Christmas.

It's mental, right? He's going to be there to shield the club from the fans, who at some point will start to ask why they've been run so badly that they're not allowed to sign players.

It's also mad from Chelsea's perspective. He basically achieved par at Derby, just like half their managers have.

I thought exactly the same. Another daft move if it does happen.

I would be very very surprised if that happened. Obviously I don’t know the man, but I suspect Terry’s managerial plan is to go to Chelsea as the main man, not as assistant.

Derby manager becoming Chelsea boss 'likely to happen', says uncle Harry Redknapp. I particularly like the "It's a no-lose situation" bit, because the rest of the sentence is, "unless he finishes outside the top six."

Doubt it. Jody Morris is his trusted assistant and was also a youth coach with Chelsea so knows the young players he will have to use after the transfer ban. I read somewhere he also wanted Drogba as part of his team. Not sure how the paper would know that given he hasn't been approached for the job according to the Derby chairman, but there we are.

He will probably be expected to qualify for the Champions League and win a trophy, which has traditionally been the minimum requirement for Chelsea managers in the Abramovich era. The difference being he will have to deliver it despite the club having a transfer ban. I think the fans will cut him some slack to some extent regarding results but I doubt the people running the club will.

Lampard would be mad to join them now - there will be a vacancy there every 1, 2 or 3 years anyway.  I see Benitez has been 'offered' a job in China. That's the opening gambit on the Ashley contract. Without decent signings (which they are never going to get) then I think he should just walk. He'll get a decent job anywhere he wants. Plus it would mean the demise of Newcastle and we could count on them finishing pretty low down.

Lampard could stay at Derby and win the Championship, making him a valuable commodity or go to Chelsea and leave with egg on his face.

Chelsea it is then.
