Will we go a season without scoring from a corner .
« on: March 25, 2012, 11:51:28 AM »
I could not believe that stat I heard yesterday . 166 corners with no goals , not a goal from a corner all season .

Will we go a season without scoring from a corner ?   If we are rubbish in the  opponents box no wonder we are rubbish at defending corners and set pieces ourselves .

Why are we so poor at corners ?

I think Collins or Cuellar will bang one in before the end of the season.

Still a shocking statistic though.

I can't see us scoring from a corner or in open play, especially as we play most games in our own half.

Come to think of it, how many headed goals have we scored this season?

Didn't Dunne get one at Arsenal?

We miss the deliveries of Young and Downing.

Petrov shouldn't be taking set-pieces.

Albrighton should take corners from the left and N'Zogbia should take corners from the right.

Yes. We haven't scored from one in the league.

Bannan's the best set-piece taker in our team. Every other delivery from him looks dangerous (to be honest, his hit-rate on dangerous set-pieces is better than Young's or Downing's was).

Really? I think his delivery is no more than speculative.

His set-pieces can be good, but his problem is that he's not consistent. Sure he'll sometimes hit a 10p coin from 40 yards away, but often he's subject to the Ashley Young syndrome of not being able to clear the first man at corners.

Like most things, he's better when he's started the game. When he comes on as a sub, he obviously feels nervous and anxious to prove something, and so gets inconsistent and, often, over-ambitious. When he's started the game, he seems to ease into it better, and he does everything more consistently, including set-plays.

Well with the potential absence of Zog for the Chelsea game and Heskey proving yesterday what we everyone apart from McLeish already knew, I strongly believe/hope that Bannan starts out wide this Saturday.
