Downing is a lightweight and we don't need anymore of those. Particularly uncommitted lightweights as we have enough of those too.

Trouble with Downing is that he is in the same group as Ireland, CNZ, Bannan... footballers with a bit of talent but don't seem to know what to do with it or how to behave.

If was going to buy anyone from Liverpool (players that are available), I would go for Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and Jose Enrique.
Not sure about Downing as I felt he walked out on us after everything the club did for him and the patience shown by the fans.  TBH, I dont think we will be after any of those.

Downing?  No thanks.  Not sure about Adam though, not particularly mobile but we could use a deadball specialist.

That and his crossing. His greatest strength is bringing the ball; there are few better.

Downing's okay, but there must be younger/better value players around who can cross a decent ball, which is essentially what Downing's best at.

Setting aside the general animosity towards him, Downing would be a significant improvement for us. A bigger fish in a smaller pond. His assist rate was good in his last season and he can play left or right. His crossing is also good. Just his shooting let's him down, but that's not his primary role.

I want us to stay in this league and Downing will create goalscoring opportunities. We're not even doing that at the moment.

I think Adam could be ideal for threading balls through to Bent, this is what Ireland should have been but hasn't delivered on killer balls to the front.

I think the issue is with Downing specifically (or Liverpool players in general) as Liverpool still owe us a fair chunk of the £20M agreed for him last summer so there would be no layout for Villa.
