Signing Dawson would be taking a swipe at the panic button with a lump hammer.
We don't need yet another financial time bomb.

We need players to keep us up. Dawson would be an improvement on the reserve rubbish we've got in our defence at the moment.
Signing players to keep us up after two games ...have some patients you lot. We need players now to plan for future progress in the Premier League.

You're deluding yourself, mate.  This is the worst Villa squad I've seen since 86/87. We're in deep shit and we could easily go down if we don't significantly improve the squad this week. I'm sure Lambert's a decent manager, but he's no magician. We need investment!

I was actually thinking that myself, backwards is an understatement, and to think how fast we've gone backwards, pretty much championship standard, maybe bit harsh but we are pretty much further back than the o  leary days. The targets/ links are quite erm well not exciting

You're right Pav . It's very worrying .

(By the way , we have a mutual friend - the Sunderland fan with the bad back)
cripple Easton lol,  yes fedsy its shite,  going tomorrow taking me lads,  just trying teach youngest that you support your team through thick and thin,  basically preparing him for the worst (sorry state of affairs)  I remember fa cup at citeh under dol,  we were shite and thought got to get bad before gets better,  it's got lot bloody worse pal. You going tomorrow?

No mate - we are down the new forest for the last week of the kids holidays  - give em a shout for me mate

Dawson... Hmm, I think he would be a good signing to strengthen our defence but its not like we've got a warchest spending money on lots of players, if we're limited to only 2-3 signings with not a lot in fees I don't know if we should spend that much on a player who plays for a club where they're well known to sell players at a very inflated price. Besides, I doubt he will want to leave London either. He would be a good addition but we've got to be careful how we spend with what seems to be on limited funds (I can't say that for sure though).

And Doyle... Hard worker, decent on the ball but when I've watched him before I've felt he lacks that bit of quality in front of goal. Again, I don't want to be paying over the odds for players like that and besides that we still haven't properly seen what Holman can do and people on here like the look of Weimann.

I know it might be short notice but it'd be really cool if Henke has looked at our team and has already given a couple of suggestions to what we need... That would be stretch right now but who knows. I really want us to broaden our horizons in the transfer market. It's pretty boring being linked with the same Premier League players forever it seems. I don't mind young prospects from other clubs or clubs from the championship, but we won't be signing the best British players and its also harder to sign good foreign players in the premier league unless they're into their 30's or have been on the decline. Why settle for 2nd best when we can look further a field to Europe where there is more talent available where the fees and wages are more affordable.

I think you're on the wrong messageboard, mate.

You want the British Medical Association Forums.  ;)

Defence, midfield and attack all need strengthening, we have a threadbare squad lacking in quality and experience and Dawson is a decent defender.

Left back, creative experienced midfielder and a striker who holds the ball up and links play are a must- forget signing a winger, lambert is not a manager who uses wingers often.

I totally agree with you Saunders, this is a very weak squad in terms of depth, ability, experience and creativity.  Lambert appears to be a very good Manager but he needs at least three or four experienced players who tick the right boxes for us.  Dawson, yes, I'd take him but not for the same amount at QPR are offering.  This is also not the time to go out and bring in too many championship type players, we need hungry, arguably young but most definitely Premier league quality.

I think a different approach is needed with our kids. Perhaps we need to loan more of them out at a younger age, and then scout them the same way as we would new signings. I know we don't put a lot of store in whatever TSM says, but according to someone I know who has spoken to him, we are too interested in winning trophies at reserve and youth level to let them go and develop in more competitive football.

Totally agree. Clark looks like he needs a full season at centre back on loan before being first choice in the prem at the moment. Baker looks stronger for playing out on loan last season too. I think we need to get them out, into competitive football with an assurance they are going to play more often than not.

I agree with the loans thing and in the times where money isn't exactly piling up in the corner, I'd love to see Villa link up with a Walsall or a Northampton to get these players out on loan for development purposes.

Don't like the idea of partnering with a club.  The place to offer loans is a club who was promoted last year.  They have more of a habit of winning games, it might sound like nonsense but just being in a team which is positive and expecting to win will be hugely beneficial.

I don't want Doyle, but the ball isn't sticking upfront. Doyle, a left back and someone who can get the ball from the midfield to the forwards and we'll be a better side, IMO.

Joey Barton anyone..... He he

He has been allowed a free transfer.

If he wasn't banned for 12 games, then I'd take him. Complete c**t, no doubt, but he's better than anything we've got now. Except maybe KAE.

We should try and get Adam.
