Is Artur Numan still employed as a scout? Or, if not, I wonder if McLeish gave us all of his inside knowledge (Numan's) of the Dutch market in the same kind of way you still want to do everything for your ex even though she  liked you and you try and get her to think so fondly of you they want you back.

It was reported after Lambert joined that the current scouting staff, which included Arthur Numan and Glen Roeder were being released by the club.

If we could get a de jong style striker with low wages, resale value and proven ability I'd be all for it.

If not I'd rather give it until January and get Weimann and the fonz a lot more half hour cameos to see if they respond to the trust being put in them.

The reality is, for 3 and a half years they both seen heskey get regular game time whilst contributing nothing and gabby get started even if he's not scored for 2 months and can barely run.  forget throwing stats about them up to this point, they're 22 and 21 (I think) before now they've been finding their feet and getting used to being around the squad, what they need is to be getting game time now.

As a club we've been far too conservative with the youth players over the last few years, a crop youngsters with the suscess ours have had at a lot of other clubs would all be 100+ appearances by now, some of ours are still only at 20-30 games and are being written off as not good enough because those games have been spread out over too long a period and it means they must be shit.

Oh, someone mentioned us playing a diamond, it's not a diamond, it's a square, we have 2 in front and 2 behind, all starting centrally and moving with the play to make the pitch 'small' so we can pass short ourselves and we can pressure the opposition and force them to pass long.

A few of the top german sides played like it for years, not sure if it's still popular there though (I guess that's where Lambert picked it up).

Aston Villa are setting up the £7million recruitment of giant Brazilian centre half Douglas from FC Twente.

Douglas plays for Steve McClaren’s Dutch club and, thanks to his marriage to a local Dutch girl, holds an EU passport.

He has just got Dutch citizenship and could play for Holland at the end of August.

Newcastle have had a £5m bid turned down.

can i ask a favour? Is there any chance people could use quotes a bit more sparingly? I'm on a mobile & the recent debate about fonz has resulted in me scrolling down a whole page of stuff i've already read to get to one new coment per page. Not trying to be arsey but it can be a bit of a pain, thanks for your time.

Regarding the striker debate, I can see where Villastikz is coming from and it does look a position where we are a little weak. I think Weimann has shown enough to be given a chance but I have my doubts about the Fonz but maybe Lambert likes the look of him? Holman can also play up front and it looks like he will be capable of getting goals. He could be a Tim Cahill/Clint Dempsey type - someone who starts out as a midfielder but can comfortably play up front.
