There are many factors that set the price. We had a result with Downing, and probably above par with Milner and, given his contract situation, Ash Young.

Sshhh. Stop it.

If you want I'll pay his bloody train fare, just get rid. Even Wales have dropped him.

I wonder how they will react in the East End if he sets about their favourite No. 10 from the 80's.

He should have been sacked.

An improving player has a far greater value than one who's getting worse.

we look at the value of the Villa players in the same way as people look at their houses or cars,

if its yours you want more than its worth, if its someone elses its worth less than they are asking

.. and if it is Alan Hutton, it is worth about 75 quid.

£2m for Collins with one year left on his contract looks like sound business to me.

Changing the subject since it's wasteful bollocks, I'd like to complain about the fees we sell players for. For years I've been thinking we under value players and seem to let them go on the cheap. The latest is James Collins who is believed to be on his way to West Ham for about £2m. Now I understand some on here think he's tripe however, a more objective view would see he's an international with considerable PL experience. I'd say the going rate is about £5m, which is what we paid and we should be looking to get most of that back especially from a team that looks to be pissing cash up the wall. When you consider we're being quoted upwards of £4-5m for unproven, Championship defenders then there's something not quite right.

I was thinking the same. The spuds had Hutton valued at £4m and he was there third choice RB. As much as everyone seems to think Collins is shit i think he has strong aerial presence in our defence and as Vlaar has a poor injury record think we should keep him and see whether Clarke becomes more established .......unless the wages saved and small fee is needed to buy another player Lambert has lined up ???

James Collins an International and therefore that warrants a higher value - yes he's an international, but it's Wales and since his first appearance for them he has only played in 40% of their games so he's a bit part player in an international team ranked 38 in the world and regularly fail to qualify for tournaments and haven't got past the quarters when they have qualified, which hasn't been for quite a while now.

Add to that he only has 1 year left on his contract, his weaknesses and the fact he hasn't been that great for last couple seasons then I think we are bloody lucky to get £2m for him.

Spurs view of Hutton's worth was probably influenced by the fact they paid £9m for him. Unbelievable.

At 2 million we're completely mugging them. I'd have been happy to take a quarter of that for Collins. He's been dreadful for two years and is complete liability. A 3 million drop in fee over 3 seasons, at his age, and given how poor the last two years have been, is more than fair enough.

As for Hutton, if we get 2 million for him we'll have done very well.

2m for Hutton... I'd be happy with 2 m&m's just to see the back of him.

I fear the best solution with Hutton will be to try and get him out on loan for a year somewhere with his wages paid for to try and get his value back up a little.

"Sky Sports understands Aston Villa defender James Collins is having a medical at West Ham ahead of sealing his return to Upton Park"

Sky Sports understanding something is better than 110% gospel. Looks like he's on his way.

The midfielders should avoid the neck injuries now his hoofs are no longer part of our game plan
