Matt Jarvis linked to a 4m move to West Ham.  I quite liked what I saw of him although that wasn't much to be honest.

Had a few good games, got called up for England, then did nothing. See Lee Hendrie.

Apologies if posted already:-

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2158418/Aston-Villa-beat-Norwich-Kyle-Naughton.html

Chris Hughton is concerned that his predecessor as Norwich boss, Paul Lambert, will win the race to sign Kyle Naughton.

Norwich have contacted Tottenham about a £4m deal for Naughton after he spent last season on loan at Carrow Road but Lambert wants to make the 23-year old his first signing for Aston Villa.

As usual no quotes, but I think it would be a good move for us if true!

I'd be happy with Naughton.

I'm sure it'll be a big improvement on the last right back we got from Tottenham!!

Given is a good shot stopper. I don't think he does too much else that well.

Tend to agree. I think overall he is a very average goalkeeper, and because he is such a good "shot-stopper" he looks far better than he actually is. Whilst I accept that the defence as a whole has been pretty poor over the last season, I think Given is largely to blame for the number of goals conceded from set pieces.

Depending upon how much cash we have I'd be a but surprised if we used £4M of it on a right back. We have Lichaj, Hutton and Herd who can play there.

I agree with the call for Wigans James McCarthy, I think he's a terrific prospect.

His choice of centre halves will be interesting. We clearly need 2 IMO.

Yes, I'd be pleased with this, especially as it would demonstrate that Lambert has already identified the problem areas. Naughton is still young but has played full seasons in the Championship and Premier League, has worked with the manager before, and could be expected to improve further. £4m is quite a substantial fee for someone with only a year left on their contract, but needs must! If it happened we'd effectively have three senior right backs (excluding Herd) on our books in Naughton, Hutton, and Lichaj. I'd be a bit worried with how we are going to be able to offload Hutton. Otherwise, Newcastle have been linked with Debuchy who looked very good for France against England, but he is probably out of our reach at the moment.

Do you think they'll take Hutton in part exchange?

As for Given, as a shot stopper he is truly world class. He is not however a world class all rounder. I was in agreement with cb yesterday and would take our money back on him if the option arose. I just see his fitness becoming more and more prevalent. It's just a shame Guzan left as I think he would have got a fair few games and the chance to establish himself as a number 1.

Naughton plays both sides. I would expect him to be Warnock's replacement.

I'd rather we bombed Hutton out first. Then Warnock. Naughton, and a new LB, and Lichaj and Clark can cover.

Am i the only one that would be a little disappointed if we spend £4M on Naughton - mainly as i would think that Lichaj to me has shown enough that he should be 1st choice RB. Unless we have already had a bid for the donkey that is Hutton

I thought Lichaj and Naughton both played left back last season to be honest, but were previously known as right backs.

I'd rather we got players in first before we bombed anyone out!

Really depends on what Lambert is looking for in his full-backs.  Having seen Naughton play for Leicester and Norwich, he is an attacking full-back in the Kyle Walker mould.  From what I have seen of him Lichaj doesn't get forward that well, so would not fit the bill if Lambert is looking for his full-backs to attack.

Kyle Naughton would be would be a good signing, but I do think that LB is more of a priority though.
