Whatever Tom Ross might be, he puts his cards on the table and you can judge him for what you know he is. Personally I think he does his job as objectively as he can.

That's fair enough Dave and although I'm not the biggest fan of his match commentary, he's always been good fronting the show and having been to few things he's hosted, he comes across as a decent bloke.  I don't whether he's been allowed more access at Blues than Villa over the past few seasons, but the impression I have got over the last few years in particular is that he seems a lot more interested and involved at what is going on at Blues, which is only natural I suppose.  I guess the fact that they can't do live commentary on certain Premier League games probably means that Blues games feature more.

I disagree on Tom Ross. He seems like a decent sort to me.
I met him after the game at st Mary's in December and he was ecstatic with the villa win and having a great time with Tayls and Rob Bishop. He's a nose but he's ok.

He did a live commentary last season on a game at the same time R5 were live.

Whilst flicking from station to station - Tom is very very poor.

Yeah, I don't know how he landed that gig really.  Growing up, it always used to be a commentator (I remember Ian Crocker - the guy who is on SKY now) with Tom doing the hosting and summarising job.  Don't know if the commentary was something he wanted to do or was asked to do, but without wanting to sound unkind, he's not great in that role.

Tom Ross is more a radio show host / anchor, never a commentator really.

I'd say Paul Franks is something similar.

I listened to Tom Ross (w Ian Taylor) for the first time in years and years this week. It was awful, it hasn't moved on since the nineties. They couldn't remember the names of half our signings and just rambled on with a load of nonsense

The thing is as someone has already pointed out the alternatives are relatively poor although I do like Tom.

I find myself listening to the van gaal wankfest on the way home from holiday today on five live and I was almost thankful of getting as far as Worcester on the m5 to hear that wm twat commentating.

Listening by default I'd say.

606 (Radio MUFC) last night was hilarious.  Worth avoiding WM for any day.

Slashed budgets... BRMB/Free can't afford a commentator so Tom Ross if forced to do it. To be fair he must put in the hours over the week...

WM was on again in the car at lunchtime.  Has anyone ever heard that treasure hunt type programme with wilford.  Basically they get clues read by a poor darth Vader impersonator and have to fathom where the radio car needs to head to to get to the secret location.  It's quite hilarious listening if only for the fact that ten minutes from the end of the programme they realise they are in Smethwick and should actually have been at Sutton Park.  And also for the dimwits phoning in suggesting place names from the clues that have absolutely no link to said clues whatsoever.

I must listen to that, it sounds abosultey dreadful and very funny. Bring back Les Ross's Round the Phone Call's, that's what i say.

'Your sister is in Melbourne, Australia is'nt she Doreen'

'That's right Les'

'And you've not heard from hear for how long?'

'She rang me two wicks ago Les'
