Apparently the club have issued a statement claiming that hitting women is culturally acceptable in Middlesbrough.

"Stewart himself is of a mixed family background as his grandmother was a woman."

There's a puntastic joke in there somewhere with the punchline of "Irish Stew, in the name of the law...", but I can't quite figure it out.

Stereotyping Scousers as thieves is a bit passé too.

We took 20 mill off then for Downing.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle ethnically diverse.

My ex Father-in-Law who came to Birminghsm from Ireland in the 50s said it was just that Villa were seen as having more Irish players to his generation.

It could be because Small Heath played in the same colours of Rangers, and even copied their club badge for a while. It's no wonder why they'd choose Villa over that useless rabble.

Interesting you say that about the badge. In the fifties our crest and even the motto -"prepared" Villa, "ready" Rangers looked identical. I think I saw a pic of Ibrox with a crest mosaic in the old shield shape, Same as ours. Wonder why?

I tried to discover a common ancestary, but apart from William  McG Scottish connection couldn't find a definitive Rangers link. Anybody?

Quote
'I knew I would get booed and get some stick, but that wasn't a problem for me,' he told the Liverpool Echo. 'I was just focused on ensuring we got a result. I think they gave up after about 50 or 60 minutes and turned on their own team.
'We were by far the better team. I think today proved a point in terms of showing why I wanted to come to Liverpool.
'It wasn't to do with money, I've joined a top team. Just look at the players we've got on the bench who can't get a game. That shows how strong the squad is.
'This was the right move for me at the right time. I enjoyed my time at Villa – it's a great club with great people but you move on in football, that's the way it is.'

The connection of the badges and the club mottos may be the use of the same architect.

I always thought Rangers' "Ready" motto was rather a late addition to their club, many years after Villa's motto was introduced.

I think I read on here that it was McGregor who introduced us to the Lion rampant.  Copying it from Rangers.

It was David Sullivan who introduced the Rabbit Rampant.
