Ahaha! What a daft thing to get banned for.

Despite Iago's continued ranting all over the discussion board, I think he/she has a point. The mood is all wrong, while we felt we were on the cusp of big change back in 2006, currently it feels, for me at least, as if we are as far away as ever from success.

But should that be a reason for not celebrating? I don't think we should make too much of it because it's been done to death already, but saying we should keep quiet because the team aren't doing as well as they were seems wrong.

I think we should celebrate our past - in a stylish rather than arrogant / manner - we don't want to be accused of harping on about it.
Like the McGregor event next week, we should revere our heritage; it's something that many other clubs cannot claim and we own it! We should remind our younger fans, our current owners and those potential fans out there that this is a great club, with real roots and a proud history.

(... just lacking a bright future, currently).  ** smiley thing **

Yes we should celebrate it as it will coincide with winning the FA Cup.  Double celebration.

I'd be against it.  We got our "Proud History, Bright Future" scarves during that celebration didn't we?  What would we get this time, "Past European Cup Winners, Future Delloite's Top 20 Richest Club"?

A bit of both. Celebrate in a decent, honourable manner and come out and lay down the gauntlet for the future.

Maybe, but nowhere near the same scale as the celebrations in 2007.  Players' dinner and forum, something like that.  We shouldn't completely ignore it, as that would be disrespectful.

If its celebrated then the club should do it in a subtle manner. The scarves mentioned by Not3bad above have a bit of a hollow ring to them right now.

I heard that the actual date falls on a Saturday and there was a move to perhaps have a bit of a 5 a side tournement amongst the supporters clubs with one or two of the former players involved. Playing it in Rotterdam itself was mentioned.

Sounds like a good boozy nostalgic weekend, we could have a H & V team perhaps.

I am planning a drive to Rotterdam with the old man who took me as a lad on the Villa coaches back in '82.  Gonna suprise the old bugger and kidnap him in my camper.  Will be able to a have a few more ales this time.

I think the occasion needs to be marked in some way, but perhaps not at the same level of the 25th celebrations.

Rather than repeating 2006, maybe we could still do something but a little bit more low key and personal.

The idea is to honour just one member of the 1982 squad at a time at each home game.
19 homes games, 19 players and staff, 19 individuals to walk out on the pitch.
I'm sure the players would appreciate it and let's face it, none of us are getting any younger or are we to wait until the 50th anniversary before we recall them again.

Not only a step too far but the 25th Anniversary took place when there was real optimism and enthusiasm about the club's future which I doubt would be the case next year, I think it would just serve to highlight how far away we are from attaining such heights. 30th is also a fairly non-descript anniversary anyway.

Exactly how I feel.

The 25th anniversary celebrations also addressed what had been a 24 year slight by Doug.

What they done five years ago was fantastic,to do it again is a bit small time,
after all were not Coventry or the blues.
