I'm thinking that the attachment of William Windsor to our club must be difficult for the Noses. On the one hand, he is absolute proof that Villa is the club of the posh/shires etc. On the other hand, my lived experience has been that the working classes have always been divided into the left leaning and the forelock tugging. Generally, those whose knuckles are more proximate to the ground are the forelock tuggers and the more intellectually capable tend to be the left leaning. So, although he encapsulates our 'posh' fanbase, he is also undeniably the Prince of Wales, future King etc. Nuance not being their thing, this must be difficult for them.

+1 for the Ulster posse.

+2 we're everywhere

👍 Proper rebels up North, not like the Cork wannabes.

Pah.
Didn't realise how many people support Aston Villa in the north of Ireland, just coming over from Derry airport and talking to a girl from Buncranna who told me the Villa well supported there, amazingly she  was related to a old friend

Cambridge has (or had, not sure if it's still going) a Northern Ireland Villa supporters club. There were only about 15 people in it but that's not too bad, really.

A group of Northern Irish Villa supporting individuals living in Cambridge is a bloody niche demographic.

Oh it was a University club. Lots of Northern lads there, mainly studying engineering as I recall.

Which makes sense, I suppose, given the accent.

"Stack a bolt 'n thar and it'll wark faine. Do at, 'n' do at noi!"

I’m half Dub and a quarter Co
Galway man here to tip the balance

Galway will do, cheers Ger.

I’m half Dub and a quarter Cork if you’re recruiting

That Dub is a bit of a problem, I won't lie.

But then I'm quarter Leitrim, so nobody's perfect.

Just a thought on this subject of celebrity fans.......no pictures or any sightings of Nigel Kennedy recently.  Is everything OK there?  Does anyone know if he was in Istanbul?

Currently in the middle of a UK tour. So probably difficult to get the time off.

I saw a picture of him about two weeks ago or so that was taken recently.  He's touring again soon.

He was probably staying at the Four Seasons, which might be out of the price range of most Villa fans.

Martin Samuel, The Times today…

Happy and glorious: how prince among Villans can use his influence
It is no little irony that the public love and admiration the Duke of Sussex so clearly craves, has been effortlessly achieved by his brother — just by genuinely liking football. Prince William did not behave as if the camera was on him every five minutes in Istanbul, even though it was. He was just there with his mates, like any other Aston Villa fan. He sang, he celebrated, he shed a little tear.
What a secret weapon he could be, though. It was felt, in the days when Real Madrid were very visibly the club of the Spanish royal family, that this gave them a significant advantage. Sitting in the very best seats at the Bernabéu was the king and a succession of political grandees, all wrapped in Real Madrid scarves. When a white shirt blew down in the penalty area, it was fairly obvious what decision would impress the great and good.
And referees are authority figures, too. Meaning they have great respect for the high-ups. Barcelona, certainly, believed officials were keen to make Real Madrid's very important fans happy during their glory years. So could Prince William be doing more? A little brush by, popping his head around the referee's door with all best wishes before kick-off. He's already got the succession tied up with George. Change the Cambridge coat of arms to include the legend Up The Villa, and the rest barely need bother to turn up.
