Last I looked, Duran was on the scorers sheet for Zenit but both were penalties.

Wonderful goal that wasn't enough to save football's reputation.

Stings a bit that we sold him for about £2m!

It will be interesting to see what happens should Southampton not go up.  They paid £12m for him, and I could see a newly promoted side, or low-mid table side, happily paying £20m for him.  He's stepped up with goals and assists at every level he's played (except international, but he only has 14 caps so far), so I definitely think he could play higher.

His potential is possibly limited by his lack of pace and/or physicality, which might be why we decided to cash in when we did, but there is no denying he has really good ability, and with the ball at his feet, he is Premier League level.

Ashley Young retiring at the end of the season at the age of 40, good luck to him for his future.

He's a bit unfortunate at international level with the formation Ireland play. He's clearly rated by the manager but we only have two decent technical footballers, Azaz and Parrott. Molumby, O'Brien, Collins and the likes run around a lot but passes through the lines to find Azaz aren't their forte. He changed the game when he went into midfield v Hungary but they stepped off and not sure he has the athleticism to play there regularly for club and country.

Similar to Parrott he could play at a higher level on the continent (Europe) I think. Scratching around at a bottom half PL team that values athletes in midfield might be a struggle for him. He won't be in the championship next season anyway.

Our Ashley, I say our Ashley, hanging up his boots:

Interesting that the BBC choose to barely mention the club he played most and scored most for in the article.
