50% Villa 50% Edgbaston.
« on: August 12, 2011, 04:47:36 PM »
Have any of you Bears Fans noticed the "slight" similarity between the refurbished Edgbaston and the Villa Park of the late 1970's - 1980's?

The floodlights?

It looks like they are in Helvetica ours weren't so it must be something else, maybe they've used less concrete in one of the stands than they should have.

The floodlights?
Please elaborate. ;)

The lightbulbs in the floodlights are in the shape of the letter "e"

And?
And don't always work.

Alternatively, because each of our old floodlights spelled a letter from AVFC.

Congrats to Spangly and TimVilla for getting it almost right.
The new floodlights at Edgbaston are in the shape of a letter 'e' the old floodlights at Villa Park used to spell out AV at either end of the ground.

Get out if it, I said floodlights first post.

Not as good as ours though, it's not immediately apparent when you're in the ground that they're an 'e' whereas there was no mistaking the 'A' 'V'.

OK. I'll admit that I've been to Edgbaston four or five times this season and hadn't noticed the floodlights  were in the shape of an 'e' until it was pointed out to me today. :-[

I used to love those floodlights, just the little glimpse through the tower blocks of Brum... one of the things that made Villa Park unique.

A big lasered 'AVFC' into the night sky would look good on a match day.

It would be interesting to see if Batman would arrive in a Villa top - but then our away kit is black, so his normal gear would do at a push.
