A nag I put a few quid on each way came in second at 40/1 in the 1:30 at Cheltenham, £200 beer money for next weeks skiing holiday.

Well done

First bet on the horses since I went to Cheltenham in 2003 on a corporate jolly and didn’t win a thing all day. This one was a tip from a mate, shame it only came in second as it did lead briefly which did get me all excited.

A few placings with Fugitif, Mill Green and Hitman stemmed the losses a bit. Cold, grey and rainy, £7.50 for a Guinness and a tenner for a pastie. I think I much prefer attending the smaller meetings.

As expected no winners yesterday, my £1 e/w accumalator was never going to worry Paddy Power.

Todays Donkeys are:
1.30 Lossiemouth
2.10 Gin Coco
2.50 Corbetts Cross
3.30 Galopin Des Champs
4.10 Famous Clermont
4.50 Allegorie De Vassy
5.30 Iroko

500k available on the ITV7 today, free to enter.

Got found out the last 200 yards but did run well. Made me few quid. Backed 8/1 each way plus backed at 6/4 to get a place.

3 winners picked, well done!

Only had the GC winner and second myself so that’s 3 poor days, I’m now going into betting retirement until the next festival when I’m sure I’ll again forget just how terrible I am at it.

The less said about my gambling the better.

Only went on the first day this year due to cost. Noticeably quieter in Tatts and a much more pleasurable experience as a result. They capped the attendance but there were far fewer there across all three days. It was spun as strikes and weather but everyone I talked to blamed the prices. Locals in the Town also noted how quiet it was and blamed cost as well.

They had some self serve pint dispensers and they were excellent (cost aside), I hope that's what we get in the Upper Holte.

Yup it’s a very expensive day and I’ll think long and hard before buying tickets for next year, before doing it anyway.

I forgot that my mate, who I was watching with on Friday, had both the horse that didn’t fancy moving any further than the start line, and Corbett Cross who decided to head butt the last fence.

Any tips for The Grand National later? Just had a quick look and initially thinking Delta Works with Our Power and Lifetime Ambition as outsiders but with 39 runners anything can happen.

Sadly Dark Raven has become the second horse fatality at the Grand National festival, the horse was put down after a fall in the 3pm race.

Just seen a re-run of the National, pretty grim viewing.

Yeah and sadly another fatality, a field of 40 horses is far too many, should be half that.
