As many have said, he served the Villa well and 2 years more would have been silly. He was starting to stay on his line and he didn't save many penalties if I remember right but he was great at shot stopping. I don't think he will be number one at spurs long, for all of Gomes's faults he makes some outstanding saves and has saved spurs on many occasions, something Freidel rarely does.
