McLeish and the General have not in any way deserved the very personal abuse they've received from some people on here and on other sites. It's completely uncalled for. This is about a football manager. McLeish isn't a child molester or rapist, yet some of the vitriol was incredible. Everyone is entitled to an opinion on who should be manager of our club, something that we are very passionate about. But when it's uncontrolled it's pure aggression, and this isn't a topic that should ever make any of us that upset or angry. I'll only ever get that way when somebody hurts my family or friends. Not about football.

You don't have to like the appointment. I'm not a fan of it. But, I'll give him a chance to have his say, and take on the task of making us successful. He knows what he's walking into, and he'll already have a thick skin having managed one of the Old Firm. I wish him the very best as our manager and hope that we look back on this episode embarrased because it went so well.

Well said!

I said earlier this week "In Randy I trust" and that I will still be there next season no matter what. Well I will be there next season but the trust has gone I am afraid.

It does not upset me that he managed SHA because he is from Glasgow, supports Rangers and was lucky enough to manage his boyhood team. If he was Small Heath born and bred I might feel different.

What annoys me is the laughing stock Lerner has made us by being unable to persuade at least his first or second choice to join us and scraping the barrel fo a manager. But what annoys me more is the emphasis on proven premier league experience as a criteria because that is flawed in two ways:

1. It is not a necessary requirement of a manager in the global football world of the 21st century. Mourinho, Benitez, Ancelotti, Hiddink, had no experience in the Premier League before they managed their respective clubs so why should it be a requirement of our manager; and

2. McLeish has experience of the PL but the majority of it was as an manager who was unsuccessful in keeping his team in the top division - and that is the real reason why my trust in Randy has gone.

See you next season one and all - Villa across the mersey, read your post about long journeys on the M6 next season, join me on the train, you can drink a shed load and block out the pain on the way home.....

I will add that our club's history is littered with Scots who have helped to make it the finest and the most important.

...and then again, Billy McNeill...

Ditto. His appointment will not meet with our approval, for some on reasons of principle and for others because of the style of football his teams play. But I am prepared to forget that for the minute and enjoy the relief of us making the appointment (if it is true). The negativity in the media and that expressed by fans has worn us all down I think.

Well,  they've gone and done the unthinkable.

Its not that he's an ex-nose, it's not that his record of PL survival is poor and it's not the feeling we've missed a big opportunity to hire a 'statement' manager.

No, the biggest disappointment for me is that they knew how we felt.........and they went ahead and did it anyway. I defended Randy Lerner to the hilt last week but all this makes me feel duped. It's like you've been shit on by someone you thought was a mate.

Sid stays or there really will be trouble.
I wouldnt mind them keeping GMac either. He's no manager (yet) but a coach with some potential.

And William McGregor, without who none of us would have anything to look forward to on a Saturday afternoon.

Apparently sids on his way out, along with all the other back room staff.  Quoted on 5 live today. Gonna cost Randy £20 mill for this deal to go through..or so the 5 live lot worked out?...
