just saying what i heard and gardener may join him he doesnt want to move his family

"I've supported Villa since I was a lad y'know. I was there standing on my dad's shoulders at Wembley when we beat Leeds in '96."

Craig Gardner, upon resigning for Villa in a few weeks time.

I've heard the story about Gardner coming back to and he'd much prefer here than Sunderland.  At least he'd be an improvement on NRC.

I feel sick.

We don't want any blose players. I would be amazed that anybody on here wants any of their tainted cast-offs.
Isn't having their manager enough??

If this doesn't work out the way the board planned how long before fans turn on the board? Not saying I will but I can see protests within a year if we are strugglign with McLeish.

I wish this was all a sick joke.

The way the statement reads id say they have already spoken at length to him and its a formality, richard bevan just been on saying mcleish free to join any club as he is going to sue blues and they seem certain they will win for constructive dismissal,.

At least it looks like we wont have to pay compensation,id still like to know why hughes was never considered but i guess we will never know.

I would be amazed if blues were to sell villa any player after this.

I would say Hughes wasn't considered because of his agent, he's dirty, however we should have got over that in view of how muddy we are about to get.

I'm happy it's over and I can sleep!

I wanted hughes , Carlo , moyes or Benitez and mcleish wasn't on my list but it's randys choice and he's not as bad as some portray- I really wish him well and hope we can all unite behind the team and hopefully have good times ahead.

You,re a frickin nose in diguise, there aint a claret and blue bone in your body.

I would have prefered McLaren after all this shit!  Are we to blame for this?  Should we have really overracted to McLaren being appointed?

Perfectly reasonable to turn on the board, we have just fallen from grace under Houllier who in himself health or otherwise should never been appointed and now this the mother of all appoinments, we all stand and fall by the decisions we make in life, the Villa board are no differant, they need to remember who's paying for McLiesh.

There's 2 main points going fwds for me. 1. Whether he's good enough. 2. Whether he'll get a fair crack of the whip, both in terms of board and fan support.

On 1. he should at least improve our defence, which is much needed. But I just can't bear the thought of watching that level of mediocre, tedious football. If we play anything like that it will be much worse than it ever was under MON, and by the end of his tenure that had got bad enough.

The only thing that Houllier had really done to make positive progress was to make some headway into becoming a more fluent, technical side. This is completely a retrograde step in the other direction. His side was even utterly tedious when in the championship and the Blues fans were sick of him. I'm much less familiar with the style of play at Rangers, but he seemed to have a very mixed record in a 2 horse race.

This does lead me to think that retaining McAllister and Cowans to try and get us to actually pass the bloody ball properly would be good.

On 2. The signals aren't good about board support. Perhaps with the wage bill reduced we'll be pepared to invest to assuage fan discontent, but I'm pretty worried the likes of Milner, Downing, Young type signings will be a thing of the past.

But perhaps most importantly of all, a couple of bad results and the fans will turn, even quicker than they did against Houllier.

And to sum it all up, it leaves the impression of the board having no clear strategy at all. We clearly made a mistake in giving MON so much autonomy over transfers, even though at the time the General was adamant the board 'knew what they were doing'. We now seem to be trying to unwind that process, but this would be reliant on a quality of young player that I'm not convinced we have.

But why then go for Houllier, try for the up and coming Martinez who is all about passing football and then end up with Mcleish who's almost the opposite.

uuuuuurrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh .  .  .  . I don't reckon this site is going to be much fine for a while, and summer transfer windos are depressing at the best of times on here. Worst and most depressing appointment since GT mark 2.

Will be avery dark day indeed if we appoint this ****. Fans will vote with their feet.
