Any chance we can get this thread back on track?

I think we are now entering the end game and the final hours of this long drawn out saga.
We can't announce Hughes until the 1st July

FWIW The General's supposed Facebook rant is now in print on the back page of the Express & Star.

Not sure about the legality of this if they're not actually his words. Anyone got any info on whether it was genuine or not?

Of course this will give them total conviction that, this time, they've finally got it right.

One more reason, if one were needed, to pray that they're 100% wrong

I highly doubt we will get Rijkaard.  Even if we did, he would probably use this a stepping stone to a bigger club in the next few years - one which is probably playing in the Champions League.  The one way we would get into the champions league is if we go out and spend in the excess of £150m this transfer window (players and wages combined)

The other way into the CL is to have an astute eye for talent and insight into the untapped market, like Wenger did. Bringing talented players and them becoming world class whilst at the Villa.. Ashely Young and Milner arnt the only players you can find..Believe it or not the world is awash with very talented cheaper options, its just a case of finding a manager who is good enough to find these players..Van Gaal and Rijkaard would have the connections on a wider scope than say McLeish,Hughes,Moyes or Coyle..

Rijkaard could proprably unearth some decent youth players from both Spain and Holland.. Never mind the next Young/Milner, he might be able to find the next Fabregas/Sniejder.. ;D

The one thing mysteryman is explicit about is that it definitely is not Hughes - sad because of those available he'd be my top choice and I would have liked us to pay fayed a few grand and get him now.

Many deals will be done before July 1st and we will miss out on players available.

I was under the impression that it was an LMA rule that prevented him from signing before then, nothing to do with Fulham.

We will only really miss out on players who we are after.  consdiering we are 50% through June, there hasn't realy been loads and loads of activity and players who we have missed out on.  There is still plenty of time to do deals.

I haven't heard that chris, I understood he activated a one month notice clause in his contract and needs fulhams permission to speak to anyone, I'd love randy to have offered a small fee to obtain him now but mysteryman is adamant Hughes is a big no no .

Does anyone still think this is all smoke and mirrors?  I wonder if Mark Hughes's demands are too high for Villa and they are trying to play a clever game to get Hughes to back down a little. Maybe he has declared to Randy that he wants the Villa job but is asking for soemthing Villa can't deliver?

Or, are we really struggling to attract anyone half decent to take the job?

how accurate is mysteryman with his knowledge/info?  A lot of people seem to believe what he has said?  Just wondering if I have missed something in the past......

If it is his account, it shows that this stuff about "we never talk to the press" is a bit silly if we're letting stuff like that find its way into the media.

I doubt it was really him, though.

Definately a smokescreen mate!  It will be Hughes or Moyes for the job.
