We've all been played by Dave Whelan. It's obvious.

Martinez wasn't even in contention for the job. He was a nobody on the list until Whelan said we approached him 9 days ago.

Whelan and Martinez knew about 3 or 4 days ago that he was never going to be offered the Villa job. So Whelan blabbed his stuff on SSN. The media lapped it up and Martinez "rejected" the approach from Villa the next day.

Martinez keeps his job security. Whelan makes it look like Wigan just held off an approach from a massive club and meanwhile Villa are saying that Martinez wasn't even given an interview.

It's all smoke and mirrors. Martinez wasn't even in contention to be Villa manager and he knew it, so he turned down the opportunity to even speak with us.

We're going to get a big name manager. Martinez was a Whelan-made bullshit story.

Dave Whelan knew yesterday that RM was staying. RM had agreed to sign a new contract after the last game of the season and had discussed this with Whelan a few days ago. Whelan knew that RM was returning from holiday to sign a new improved contract so came out to the media about the Villa's letter and professionalism to make himself amd Wigan look good in keeping RM. It's all been BS by Whelan, we were never going to get to speak to RM.

We move on!!!

Whatever anyone says, we do try to do things in the right way. The trouble is, very few people in this world are interested in doing things with honour and integrity - certainly not in football, and absolutely not in the media. The result is that we can be made to look foolish by the treachery of others. The tragedy is that it is harmful to us as an institution, when most of the things said about us in the public domain are either mocking or downright derogatory. Perhaps the right way needs to be ditched for the clever way?

theres 671 guests loged in at the moment,
thats high isnt it ?

That's because this damn thing is being turned into some sort of bloody circus freakshow whether we like it or not. There's a part of me secretly wishing all Villa related internet media to explode for the next 7 days or so.
How can it be that Chelsea have grief looking for a manager and nothing is said, we try to conduct things behind closed door and with integrity and the whole media is pointing at us like a schoolkid who's just peed his pants?

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Dave Whelan was one of presumably a few chairmen we've contacted for permission to talk. He's the only one to go public. Not having been offered the job, and not wanting to risk looking a tit, Martinez says he's staying. Villa behave decently, Whelan's a tosser.

I've said for the last two days that despite Whelan being on the face of it all magnanimous saying nice things about us, he's is an absolute ruthless businessman, who knew EXACTLY what he was doing.  He's come out of this smelling of roses, we've come out of it looking like chumps.  Ellis wouldn't have let that happen to him.  Lerner hasn't got the remotest clue how to conduct football business or manage the media.

100% my take on it. Shame the press can't report it this way as we are taking a bashing right now. Think we are showing naivity in our handling of PR, who is our PR man/women? we are rubbish.

That take on Martinez-Whelan certainly makes sense.

It's worth noting that it's not just Villa who aren't saying anything. None of the other main names mentioned in the process - Moyes, Hughes, Coyle, Benitez - have said anything recently either, at least as far as I can see. Despite their names jogging up and down in the bookies' lists, not a peep has been heard.

I've just got a feeling Randy really wants Moyes.

There is a very apparent misconception in the media that we offered him the job. I bet if we had he'd have jumped at the chance.

Ouch! This is smarting. We've been hung out to dry by Dave Whelan. But to issue a statement to highlight the fact is a bad move.
We've given Smashy and Nicey on Talksport lots of ammo now. And we've Sky Sports something to get their teeth into.
It hurts though, that Martinez doesn't jump at the chance.
The longer this goes on, the bigger the vacuum, and media outlets need to fill this empty space with some sort of vaccous shite. Hopefully some other story breaks soon to take the focus off us, we are unlucky that the last few weeks have been quiet on the football news front.
