1) The only bet I am interested in is just how many pages of hysteria this will run to before the announcement is on the official site or 'ITSOTP' as the moniker goes. I think we will now exceed 650 pages before we are done.

2) This thread could form someone's dissertation in psychology titled 'The Madness of Crowds'.  As an exercise in hysteria I've never seen anything like it. I think its interesting that the 'older' members are more patient but the 'Twitterati' seem to think every exercise like this needs to be executed in a day with regular updates at every stage. Unbelievable.

Not really true considering the vast majority of villa fans calling into radio shows complaining have been the older ones. I consider myself to be part of the patient ones. Is 30, old?

Do agree with everything you have to say though. The fans are getting easily wound up by all forms of press over the last 2 weeks.

The longer it runs, the less likely it is to happen, I reckon.

After spending most of yesterday getting incredibly angry at, err, how angry I would be if they did it, I've woken up this morning convinced they would never be so utterly stupid.

I think the reason why villa are not commenting as it takes the attention away from the fact that they are currently working on a deal as we speak.  If they come out and deny it then the press are just going to start writing, printing and making up other rubbish stuff!

Villa will not deny it because every time a new speculation comes up it would mean them having to deny it which means when they don't then deny it  then it implies there is something in it . They do not want to say anything until it's in the bag .

But It will not be McCleish !

I was basing my view on the fact they went off like a bottle of pop to deny the Hughes link.

too right MM! The board can't keep denying things that are nothing to do with them. Are they denying the price of bacon is going up? I wonder why that is?
The General made it clear, and I am a believer, thet AV will make an announcement when there is something significant to say. In the meantime we can't expect them to respond to stuff that the press are simply making up to sell papers/airtime/justify their jobs!!

Has anything changed since page 400, I'm guessing there's just 34 pages of people wailing about mccleish and being told it won't be him but is there anything else in there (other than discussion about how many pages this will run to).

Aside from that is there any chance one of the mods can organise for a recap post to be added every now and then (when something meaningful happens) with the title changed to include the page number, it might make this thread a little less painful to open when people see another 30+ pages each time they log on.

The page number is irrelevant, as it depends on your profile setting.

The only remote positive of a McLeish appointment would be that DC5 wouldn't need a calculator for working out Guess the Crowd next year.  Fingers & toes at a push would suffice.

Rest easy, this isn't going to happen.
