Abso-bloody-lutely give him the #9 shirt and can we flog Ireland with it as it is taken off his back?

Think he's already said that 'without being disrespectful to Stephen' he'd like the #9 next season.

He also said he was gonna take another number but Ged wanted him to have #39 as the 9 is a strikers number.

It's just a number lol... these days numbers don't really correlate with playing positions as they did 15-20+ years ago.

He looks good with 39 on his back, he's banged in the goals wearing that number... no reason to change!

If anything Bent should have #6 on his shirt... same number as his favourite basketball player.

He's very polite saying "no disrepect to Stephen Ireland" before saying he wants the shirt. I haven't noticed anyone on here starting their message with "with no disrespect to Stephen Ireland"!

I was going through the Villa number nines since I've been following them. Gray, Withe, Thompson, McInally, Olney, Cascarino, Regis, Saunders, Savo, Dublin, Angel. I remember BFR making a big deal of the tradition of the Villa number nine shirt when he bought Deano. I think Bent has to be given it next season. Maybe Sid can fill him in on some of the history of it.

couldn't agree more, the shirt is iconic  8)

Definitely should be Bent. Who was the last quality number 9 we had? Angel?

A good argument spoiled by a bad example.  JPA was a lot of things, but quality wasn't one of them.

To be fair for one season he looked quality. Frustrating at times for the rest.

To be fair that's bollox! Angel would have been a far different player if we had recruited a player with the ability to spot the runs he made before he eventually got it and to be flagged offside

The guy could prove to be as good as Gray and Withe, maybe even Lochhead!
Give him the Number 9 !

Bearing in mind I grew up idolising Andy Gray, it pains me to see the current holder of that same Villa No.9 shirt. Give it to Benty now ... please!

Sorry, but have to disagree. Numbers 39, 45, 56 etc. don't mean a jot to me. The number 9 shirt is probably the most iconic of all. Give it to Darren now!
