I reckon young must have got about 30 goals and 65 assists over the last 4 years. That's going to be pretty hard to replicate.

If we can't get NZogbia, I think we should go for Junior Hoilett.

Have been really impressed with Hoilett this season, could see him developing into a really good No.10. Quick feet, good vision and one Hell of a shot on him too! If Ashley does depart, we should be able to get Robinson & Junior from Rovers for the money and maybe even some change to spare....

I've got no problem in Young leaving.

Sure he's a natural footballer but his style  isn't particularly exciting  compared to the likes of Tony Daley or Tony Morley.

As a winger he isn't direct or quick enough and he's shown this season that he can't really cut it in a free role.

this is 2011 you know. The last thing we need is two outdated style wingers on our books, especially when we nearly have half a side of overpaid deadwood.

Young will go, what is annoying and pointless is this inane posturing from the likes of McAllister. What is Randy playing at we need decisions and we need them fast.

From Today's Sun:

Tottenham duo Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone, along with Aston Villa's Ashley Young, will fly to Marbella to join the cast of TV show The Only Way Is Essex.

Yes that goal you could say helps and hinders us.  If there were any doubts at OT or Anfield they are removed however  a bit more money and we could stretch it to £20m.

Ashley Young was a good player for the Villa and it's a shame to see him go.  However, what's more difficult to take is that his departure seems to follow a trend in that we cannot seem to stop our best players leaving.  At times it feels like we are a stepping stone or a feeder club incapable of keeping good footballers from leaving.  I suspect Downing will stay for one more year (due to him being forced to respect his contract for one more year) and Bent will follow the year after, alongside Clark, Albrighton or whoever else shines in a Villa shirt between now and then.

This is not a recent thing either, remember Southgate leaving for Middlesbrough due to the perceived (and probably accurate) lack of ambition at the Villa.  Ok that was a bad decision in hindsight but the point still stands.  If players think the likes of Boro have more ambition than us then how on Earth are we ever gonna attract the top players, never mind keep the ones who are already here?

HITS you are right and that is why we now need to make a managerial appointment in alighnment with our ambition, i guess the appointment will tell us where we are in terms of ambition.
MON was a top 6 manager with a few cup runs, can we go beyond that?

This comment below  from Ash after the match does not point to a done deal.

Young has been tipped to quit Villa Park with Manchester United and Liverpool interested.
And the former Watford man insists he will sit down with club chiefs soon and sort out his future.
He said: "I'm going away on holiday but I said at the end of the season I would speak to the manager.
"That is where it stands. Now I'll go back and speak to the chairman and we will take it from there."
