Obviously the French are not a distinct racial group but as far as the law is concerned they are and it is an accepted way to use the term.

Semantics.  Let's use prejudiced then.  Either way the mentioning of his nationality in this context was designed to point out that he is in some way typical of his people's stereotype (French surrender monkey?)  and there's just now need for it imo.
