One thing he's inadvertently done is put stacks of pressure on the team for Bolton now.

Lose that, and we're going to have a Moscow -> Stoke situation again, which won't be helpful.

Evening gents, have just joined after feeling compelled to after watching that utter shower. Feel like I'm in a living nightmare, especially after those over the road winning on Sunday. I keep getting texts about lack of ambition, never thought I'd see the day that after spending 18-24 million on a player I'd be saying I feel like the Blose have more ambition than us, squad and manager.

Hubbie's a blues fan and I've been having to put up with the replays of every round so far. Particularly galling to watch Gardner and Ridgewell running round in there bloody winners medals. Really thought we could get through tonight with the incentive of Reading in the next round and City drawing at the weekend and with all due respect to the Royals we'd have had another trip to Wembley on our hands and a bloody good chance of silverware. Now I'm going to have to put up with him lording the bloody cup over me for another year, he wont stop singing 'While we're in Europe, the city is yours'. This is by far the shittest few days of this season. Thank you GH for making my home life close to unbearable.

Absolutely gutted tonight.

Divorce the bastard.

Kill the bastard

Having to suffer that was bad, but seeing people on here actually supporting this act of cowardice is even more depressing. They must have a totally different view of what Aston Villa means as a football club.

Spot on

Exactly. If we played our strongest team, we might have lost, but we would not be talking about what could have been like after Moscow and Rapid Vienna. Why should our best players not be able to play 3 games in 8 days ?

"Supporting this cowardice"....I support the club, I support the manager and I can see logic in the team he selected tonight.

I am fully aware what Aston Villa means as a football club. Houllier is building something at the moment and I am prepared to give him time to do it. I was fed up of MON's short term plan and the accounts show the problems with it. Some fans want everything right now....I am prepared to wait to make sure our success is on solid foundations.

If our 1st choice 11 had lost badly tonight we would have taken a lack of confidence into the game v bolton and could have been 2 points off the relegation zone. We have now maximised our chances of winning this game.

Well as you can see you are in the minority as the rest of us are appalled at the surrender and if we dont win on Sat, id like to see what you have to say then

Those moaning about team selection= in view of the injuries would you really of preferred to see Beye and Warnock tonight instead of Herd and Delph Don't think he had a lot of choice with regard to the defence and at least they tried.

We'd not played for two weeks before the Blackburn match. And we are hardly distracted with European matches. There's a world of difference between flogging the same XI twice a weeklike MON did and resting our best players because we have Bolton away on Saturday. It's pathetic. As are the excuses for this clown.

What if our 1st team had lost 4-0 again. Then lost the confidence they had gained and lost against Bolton.
Then we go into a relegation 6 pointer against an in form Wolves....

I think it was more to do with confidence that fitness.

As I said before I think his decision was made once Cuellar, Collins, Baker and L. Young were ruled out.

We have given ourselves the maximum chance of beating Bolton. We have to take that chance now.

I'm backing the manager.  The last thing we need to do is talk ourselves into a crisis.  Yep, it hurts to have to say "No FA Cup this year", but let's regroup and refocus for Bolton.  GH is giving all his players a chance and I'm not going to crucify him for it.  Let's move on and finish this frustrating season as high up the table as we can.  Getting rid of GH now?  Utter madness.

By the way, to say GH doesn't value the FA Cup when he has won it as a manager already would be inaccurate in my book.  He knows what it's all about  He made a call tonight, it didn't come off.  Let's get behind him and the lads.

No worries, they're just joking. It's just so fucking typical that their first season that isn't shit compared to ours in how many years is the exact season we fall apart and the worst thing tonight is what it was willingly. And I worry with a manager that doesn't take these competitions seriously this is only the start. No way I can see us making Europe next year unless the noses win the frigging FA Cup as well! Unless they get drawn against a difficult team, they'll drag out a bore draw then win back at their place. Blues in Europe and we're bending over at Eastlands for the second time in 2 months. What the hell is happening to AVFC?!

One more 'The City is ours' and I'll be deleting everything off the sky plus

Clearly it gives us a better chance of winning on saturday because several players will be fresher but saturday is not the be all and end all. However, if by playing one less game between now and the end of the season those players help us stay in the division, then you could argue tonight was not a risk worth taking looking at the bigger picture.

I would have so much more respect for Houllier if he came out and admitted he got it wrong. It's right up there with MON telling us how great we played and DOL having a small squad. I wonder if GH knew the game was shown live on national TV.
