Angel's Intervention Brings Villa Drought to End

SECTION: SPORTS

LENGTH: 126 words

DATELINE: LONDON, December 17

Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel scored twice to give Aston Villa a 2-1 home victory over bottom club Ipswich Town on Monday.
Villa had not won since going top of the league in October and fell behind in the 18th minute when Finidi George fired a low shot past Peter Schmeichel from 25 meters.

Poor Ipswich defending then led to Angel heading the equalizer a minute before halftime and after Paul Merson hit the bar for Villa with a clever chip, Angel won it 20 minutes from time.
His hopeful shot took a massive deflection over the head of stranded Ipswich keeper Matteo Sereni.

The win takes Villa to 27 points but they stay eighth, while Ipswich remain bottom, four points adrift of Derby County, with just one win from 17 games.

when this game was played I was at a works Xmas party having "banter" and trying to avoid an Ipswich supporting dwarf all night!  I kid you not.

pulled a very pretty and hot (non dwarf looking)female in the place that night as well...

Bewers? That's a name I had forgotten! Whatever happened to him?

Fuck me old boots, never knew this game meant so much to you Chico.
Have you got every newsclipping on file that ever existed in work or summat?

As for Bewers, a strange friend of mine modelled his haircut on his in 2000/01. Possibly holds the record for the least amount of time in a Villa shirt. Came on at the death in our memorable 4-2 win over Spurs away in April 2000, never played again. Went to Notts County I think. Along with Stephen Cooke and Stefan Moore he was highly regarded at the time.

Just googled Bewers. Didn't go well for him in the end.

A couple of dozen games over the course of a decade. Crikey. I hope he finished his degree in the end and has made a career for himself in something.
