Signed for Wolfsburg a couple of weeks ago.

The sad thing is, I think we were all waiting for something exciting to make amends for a pretty desperate closed season. However, even worse is the fact that, whether we like it or not, the players of the Hutton/Jenas ilk are the type of players we are going to have to get used to coming through the door from now on.

Is it? Or are these signings due to the specific circumstances we find ourselves in? Do the Given and N'Zogbia signings not count as the type of signings we have to get used to? Or the young Irish lad as one for the  future?

I'm glad you mentioned that, because it seemed like a lot of people assumed Given and N'Zogbia signed about five years ago, not in the past month and a half.

I can't believe for one second they turned down 40million for Modric. There isn't enough crack in the world for 2 people to smoke that would make Person A think offering 40million a good idea and for Person B to think turning it down would be an even better idea.

Well at least we have some new players to add to the mix in the formation. I'm going for:

Cuellar------TheScottishPlayer------Guzan----Jenas.

Clark------Ireland----- the fonz

Add the physio and thats a pretty strong bench

Given and N'Zogbia are good players and good signings.

The problem is, we've not made anything like enough good signings this window and are now extremely light, even when compared to last season's lightness.

Its a bit like Rangers turning down 9 million from an un named club for thier bloke. At least RL and the General isnt trying to tell us that we have ambition any more.

Five Live are talking shite if they think not selling Modric for £40 million was a good move for Spurszzz. They could've bought in some top class players with that money.

The only possible reason must be that Levy doesn't want to give Redknapp the money.

40 million is insanely over the top.

I reckon it's just Levy wanting to show how hard he is. He's set himself up as this ball breaker of a negotiator but in this instance I reckon he's cut off his nose to spite his face and they've missed out on Cahill too. Be interesting to see how Modric reacts.

I think Hutton will likely be our right back for the next 4-5 seasons, thus rack up maybe 200 games for us. For a fee of 3-4 million, it is better value than Luke Young, on lower wages and offers a good player going forward. Defensively he is not great, but then the more attacking options we have with McLiesh the better, they should be celebrated!

Jenas is a loan deal. If he is good I would bet at his age and stage he would stay, if he is not then he goes back with no harm done. Bannan, Ireland are not ready to play the position that Petrov and Delph are at the moment, they would be battered in there. Jenas gives an athletic player in there, with a decent pass, decent temperament that when Petrov or Delph are injured, lose form, get suspended etc, gives someone we can slot in, and hopefully he will take his chance and show that he is a decent player and the stats on Spurs with him playing and not last season are based on him being better than people are giving him credit for. I just hope a fee has been set.

Levy obviously bluffed and lost. 20m for Modric is a joke, let alone double that. I fear when the dust settles he'll end up looking a knob.

Think Levy isn't going to give Redknapp £40 million to spunk knowing that he's walking away to the England job in the not too distant future.

I agree with that. I don't have an issue with the 4 coming in, but I think we are a quality central midfielder light and a winger light of being covered. However, we are more covered than we were this morning, and now need to get through the next 4 months and see where we are.

If Hutton is here for 4-5 years, how long are we going to be in austerity mode?

Jenus will be a competent transition player for us.  It'll mean Delph can be taken out of the firing line when/if his form drops.  Not to mention when Petrov is blowing out of his arse.

As a loan it makes sense, as hopefully next year we'll have more cash and can buy a better player to permanently replace Petrov.

It was widely reported that chelsea bid 27m for Modric last week having previously bid something like 22m.  Why on earth would they suddenly jump from 27 to 40m, it makes no sense.
