Incidentally, Kallstrom is supposedly being paid £70k per week at Lyon.

Good player though he is, I'm not sure he's worth that much.

I like Kallstrom but he certainly isnt that good.
No then.
We're supposed to be watching the wage bill and he wouldn't be worth that amount.

I think there'll be plenty of scope for big wages once Carew, Ireland, Dunne, Warnock, Beye, Petrov, Heskey, NRC and (sadly) Ash have gone. That's about £25m a year.

That's the important point. I don't think the club has an issue spending the appropriate wages on the right players. Once we get rid of the high earners that no longer have a future, bring in some talented players who are going to contribute, mixed in with our own exciting kids who are naturally on less money, I think that will provide the basis of solid squad and salary structure at the club.

------------------------ Forfana
Gervinho --- Makoun --- Kallstrom --- Downing
------------------------- Bent

I can see something like that. Obviously Albrighton and Gabby will be used loads too.

I think the opposite, knock 25million off our wage bill and that's nearer where out total wage bill should be, so in theory there will be no scope for big wages.

I have no idea who is going to buy but for all GH's faults (and there are many) he is the first manager in a long while that I trust to spend any money he gets wisely.

In which case, Shrek, we can't have a competitive squad and I doubt that's Randy's plan at all.

He will sanction big wages again, he'll just want a better return on them.

Listened to the World Football Phone In Podcast earlier, and a Villa fan phoned in asking about that Kallstrom. Their "European Football Expert" said that he is a decent enough player that could do well in the Premier League, but as Dave has already pointed out, is on big money on Lyon. And for those wages we could do a lot better. (He said 3.5m Euro/year is what he is earning at Lyon).

Just doing a quick bit of maths and 3.5m Euro a year works back to around £59,000 a week.  Although that's would put him amongst our highest earners, it's not totally out of the scope of what we are paying.

True, but I'd imagine he'd look for a bit of a pay raise too to sign for us. (To compensate on missing out on playing in the Chumps League), and for those wages I think we can get a better player than Kallstrom. (Parker for example)

He will yes, but unless our turnover increases, we will always be totally dependant on Randy to sustain the club.

I'm of the opinion we will not be signing big names on high wages, rather up and coming young talent with a few experienced signing.

I'd love to get Parker/Ricky Martin, but 'Arry will be looking to snaffle him for Spurs and i'll bet he'll be on about £80,000pw.

That was my source as well.

John's interpretation of my rather hyperbolic numbers is much better as well.
