From what I read GH wanted him in January and was looking to table a £10m bid but Lille wanted £15m.

That would be an awesome situation to find ourselves in, but I imagine if we did get Gervinho, it would be as a replacement for Ashley.
The good thing is we hopefully won't have to wait to long to find out, as GH has a reputation for getting his deals done early in the window, liking his squad to be in place for pre-season.

What type of player is Gervinho then?  More a 'number 10' type of striker?

Yeah, can operate in the wide areas too. He's one of those players that's always busy, even if he's not having a good game (similar to Ashley) although I guess at times that can be a bad thing.

More of a striker who can play wide but I suppose he could play that number 10 role too. He's skillful enough. More of an Henry role than a Zidane role though.

This is based on what I've seen of him which to be fair, isn't extensive. Others could tell you more I suspect.

I think JJ & Maz are both spot on really John. One of the reasons I think he will do well in the Prem is because he works his arse off every game.
 He could play that number 10 role as he has great vision and a big bag of tricks as well. He's very good at dropping deep, picking up the ball and running at defenders, something I think we've lacked for a while. As well as being able to play on either wing as the boys already said. He's got 10 assists to go with his 15 goals so far this season.

He'd certainly soften the blow should Ashley decided to move on this summer.

And the fact he looks like he was in Earth Wind and Fire is a bonus to me.

I'm not sure about him laying claim to the future though.
I'd rather he concentrated on football than becoming some post-apocalyptic fascist overlord.
