I would have thought that Ash would want to play in his England position now.

I dont disagree that Nzogbia is a different type of player but he'd still start from a wide position which would mean replacing either Downing or Albrighton.

In my opinion we need to fill an "Ireland" shaped hole before we start buying more wingers. I suppose I'm working from the assumption that money will be tight in the near future and therefore I'd prioritise positions other than wingers.

Today's Billy Bullshit

Newcastle watched Reading striker Shane Long impress against Macedonia and Uruguay for Ireland in the last week but will face competition from Wolves, Aston Villa, West Ham and Stoke.

Also said that we are expected to sign Fofafan in the summer and looking at one of his teammates.

If we stop up, i am really looking foward o the summer dealings.Get out the players too wrapped up in themselves, and get some good an up and coming players in.

GHs signings in Jan , indicated a change of direction, forme from RL.Gone are the days of signing old, "for now", players, in are the "potentially good" signings.
Hence would'nt surprise me,as has been intimated, and we can attract them by offering 1st team places, if we get plyers like Sissoko, Canles and Hazard in the summer.I think RL, would be willing to invest in players like this, like Mlner for example, that ill pay their way.

I know it sounds stupid with our current predicament, but we are not far off a very good side.Of the players who will be at the club next year, Walker?, Clark, Downing, Bent, Makoun, Delph, Bannan, Albrighton are a very good base on which to work.

Fofana has signed a new contract at Le Havre I believe?

And why would we go back in for a player with a potentially serious injury issue and pay more for him than we would have done in  January?

I admire your optimism but absolutely no chance. Canales is very much a Real Madrid player and Arsenal are trying to get Hazard, but he might even be out of their league.

As for Sissoko, I presume you mean Moussa? He'll be off to a Champions League club also. Forfana etc. are about our best shout. Getting these guys before they've become internationals.

I think if we stay up we will buy a lot of defenders, a goalie or two, a number ten and some squad players for midfield.

Nothing spectacular or any big names but good solid players capable of doing a job. Mostly in their early twenties. Add these guys to some of the players Houllier has already brought in and our young players and we should have a more than solid team to make a tilt at the top eight assuming everything works out.

I must be the only one who doesn't get Charlie Adam, IMHO he stands out in a poor side but nothing more.

Like Thompson and Curcic for us / Carrick at ManYoo / Jenas as Spurs / Sidwell and Parker at Chelsea they look Jonny Average if they try to step up a level and get lost.

i'd love cahill back, but i fear paying 20m on top of all the millions we spent replacing him with inferior players would be too much for RL to stomach
