West Bromwich Albion have made a move to land Nigel Reo-Coker and are hopeful of sealing a deal, skysports.com can confirm.

The Baggies are understood to be making a big push for the 26-year-old midfielder, who is available on a free transfer after deciding to leave Aston Villa.

A host of clubs have been keeping tabs on him, with options both at home and abroad.

Paris St Germain are the latest European heavyweight to take a keen interest in Reo-Coker, whilst the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Valencia have all been looking at him.

In England, West Brom are now looking to head off interest from up to half-a-dozen Premier League rivals.

Baggies boss Roy Hodgson is looking for West Brom to push on next season and the signing of a player of Reo-Coker's calibre would be a clear sign of their intent.

So little West Brom can pay more in wages than us??

Or little West Brom have to pay more money to get people to consider going there at all.

Be a bit embarrasing after his agent giving it the big 'un about clubs in Italy wanting him and he ends up at that shithole.

I'd be happy to take him back, but would still like Parker as well.

Parker, N'Zogbia and Foster would be terrific business and would generate some positivity ahead of the season.

Add a defender or two and things will be looking up. Up a lot.

Hitz isn't the best footballer in the world but he does have goals in him which our central midfield seriously lacks.  So just for that I think he would be worth having in the squad.

All this talk on Hitz coming back is based on his past links with us and he was well liked, if he hadn't have played for us he wouldn't be mentioned.

Probably right DB but the press seem to have us as one of a few clubs interested.

I wish I could think of a better goal scoring midfielder we would be able to sign though!

Really? You couldn't think of a better goal scoring midfielder we could sign than Hitzlsperger?

We'll need somebody if there is any truth in this!

Which there may well not be given the source!

To be honest Maz I can't. I also always think any midfielder coming to the Villa with a reputation for scoring will immediately stop scoring as soon as he puts on the claret and blue. At least I know the Hitz has scored a few for us in the past.

I question him being called a goal scoring midfielder. His record does not reflect that. He scores a few memorable ones, true, but the quanity isnt there to be called that.
At Villa he scored 8 goals in a 100 games for instance.
He gets "the odd goal".

There are dozens of midfielders in this league that are a much more credible goal threat.
I'd rather have had Criag Gardner back for instance.
