Im not knocking him I'm just saying he needs to deliver next time he gets his chance, he's almost 22 and there's no reason why he shouldn't have a chance but he must take it- last season on occasions he had chances and didn't perform- he has the ability but now it's time to show it's more than potential- I hope he succeeds but I believe Gary Gardner will be a better player .

Ok so Fabregas is exceptional sonot the best example. But what I was trying to say was that many players have got a couple of full seasons under their belts at the top level by the time they are Bannan's age, and the reason they have is because they were given the chance.
Just think we should give him the chance to show what he can do with a run in the team, and stop finding poor reasons not to.

I think like most things you come to the good enough old enough cliche - I think we need to play him more in a midfield central 3 - but as AM has said that he wants to play Gabby up top with Daz then I cannot see room in the "hole" for him - if we presume Downing and Albrighton wide (or replacement for Ashley and/or Downing) as again AM has said we will be attacking down the wings with raiding full backs

Sadly I agree. If that's the system and style AM's going to play then Bannan may as well leave now to save his own career.

If we're assuming Gabby and Bent will be a conventional front 2 then does anyone else think we will play a diamond formation?

With NRC or a new DM sitting I think the players we have have enough versatility to cover the central positions and the 'hole' while also being able to offer width.

This is probably in the wrong thread but I think it could be one possible answer as to how to fit Bannan in the team and play 2 up front.

I actually think he could be play on the wing if Albrighton needs a rest. Downing to switch back to the right and bannan on the left, Bechkham-esque. Not really fast, cant tackle but as long as he can track back and work hard for the team when needed it could work.

McLeish said we'd play with two strikers, wingers and overlapping full-backs. That's straight 4-4-2.

Great shout and fits into the 'raiding fullbacks' bit McLeish mentioned.

In that case it is difficult to see Bannan having a role, due to his lack of physical presence.

Having said that him and Hogg bossed the midfield against Man Ure at VP last season, so you never know he might step up!

One defensive midfield player with Downing, Albrighton and Bannan? That would be the most lightweight midfield in the league. The kids are good, but not that good.

Or 5-3-2 a la Sir Brian.

Well then the overlapping full backs and wingers are the same players. 5-3-2/3-5-2 often won't work these days for many reasons, but I might prefer it to the looming return to inferior MON-ball. There's no point in playing the right system with the wrong players, but equally if you have good players they can be ruined by the wrong system, and I fear that might happen to Bannan and Albrighton.

I wasn't imagining playing bannan and albrighton and downing in the same diamond.  More like downing or bannan at the top with. Delph, Makoun and Petrov as options in the middle. Depending on who we were playing Bannan could maybe play in the middle as well. Hopefully we'll sign Adam as he's chubby enough not to get bullied!

It was just an idea, anyway...

Hey I quite like the idea of a diamond, I just don't think that McLeish has it in mind. And I disagree with him fundamentally.
