If Hitz were to come back as a squad player I wouldn't exactly complain.  However, a player like Kallstrom (for instance) is far more capable. And there is more potential in some of our younger players so I'd question the need.

I'd like us to replace Young with N'Zogbia and Adam, especially if they both get relegated.

Was non plussed with the Adam link at the time, but I could see the merit in it now.
Sure, it could be another Curcic or Thompson-style scenario but that's the chance you take.

He should be more capable of playing the role Ash has found himself in for the bulk of the campaign, put it that way. Can measure his passes better and Bent would thrive with that kind of service.  Ideally with Ash pinging them in from the flanks too.

fair enough dave. i think he's a premiership player but at the level we want to be or wanted to be 12 months back? cover at best and if we keep someone like petrov as back-up, well i don't see the point really

Hitz is a good player, but we need a battler, especially if Reo Coker leaves. If West Ham and Blackpool drop, I would go in for Adam and Parker, and whisper it quietly, but Green might be worth a look too.

Ability wise i'd have Hitz back without question, but not from a tactical point of view. We need a real hardcase in there, we have plenty of centre mid's who can play but lack real toughness. I'd put him in that category, along with current players Petrov, Makoun, Delph and Bannan.

Adam will almost certainly be available and not at the ridiculous price quoted by Holloway in January.  Admittedly only judging from the MOTD highlights Adam's attitude and performance yesterday was disgraceful as he contributed greatly to Wigan's victory.

I'm not sure about Adam although somebody with his passing range is desirable. I do think Delph is capable of that range of passing though and also adds the tenacity Adam lacks. But getting another player with a very good passing range, who can also mix it up is ideal as well as a cultured destroyer.

Parker could be great for a few years as the destroyer, definitely.

News of the World saying that Downing will be going to either Liverpool or Arsenal for £10m

3 points i want to make on this jamrag paper....

1. we brought Downing for £12m when he had a bad injury and now after the best season of his life he is only worth £10m

2. now we are "staying" in the premiership we need to build on our squad and not let hime move, Randy would never allow it

3. Downing said on sky sports just 2 weeks ago that he's owes a lot to Villa and he wouldn't leave even if we got relegated!

i can't believe what this paper says, also states that he would welcome the move to a bigger club!!!!! i am no longer going to read this shitty paper on a sunday - will stick to the sunday sport in future!

Not convinced on Adam. Faded after Xmas. There are a lot of uncertainties around centre mid so it's a difficult one to call:

- can petrov sustain recent form
- will NRC stay
- will makoun adapt
- will delph, bannan and gardner push on
