I felt at the time in 2007 that selling the likes of Hughes, Ridgewell and Davis was a clear illustration of our intention to go onto better things (though I admit I was a bid sad to see Davis go -particularly with dross like Sidwell and co getting a game not so long after).

So bringing two of them back now would be perfect symmetry, I guess.

It looks like we are in the market for players that can do a job for us, a long long way from "what could a manager like Mcliesh achieve with Randys backing"
oh dear there will come a realisation tomorrow night that we are purely focussed on PL survival

Always thought Davis was pretty good. I know he was deemed too shite during our moneybags days but then Hutton wouldn't have got near our 1st team 3 years ago.

With Coates going to Liverpool, Mertesecker to the Gooners, Cahill (most probably) to Tottingham now, what odds Dann to us?

They let Foster out on loan, so I think they'd be keen to ship high wages earners off the books come what may.  I'm sure they expected decent money for both, but beggars can't be choosers.

Stoke might be another option, but even Pulis may feel with 5/6 already on the books he has enough CB's now.

That's part of the problem isn't it? We all thought we were going to be competing with Man utd & Chelsea for the big names so some convinced themselves that anyone who wasn't good enough to walk into their first teams was 'shit' and surely not good enough to play for us either. Now reality is kicking in some are finding the standard of players we can afford and who are prepared to play for us a bit hard to swallow

First Ridgewell, now Davis, expect to see the Moore brothers coming back soon.

If we're after lower league players, there's a fella at Cardiff who's banged a few in for them. Peter Worthington or something his name, maybe we should have a look at him.

We wouldn't be able to afford Stefan's wages.

Can't see it tbh.  Unless Carlos goes early in the day.

The Mirror are linking Villa with a player called Steven Davies ?

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Aston-Villa-Steven-Davies-Rangers-4million-article793382.html

Maybe they mean that we're bringing back Steven Davis and Curtis Davies

Davis signed a new 5 year contract with Rangers last month.

Not going to happen.

Glad to see the Mirror keeping up their standards.

Transfer deadline day, eh? I don't know. I wonder if it's in danger of becoming just a little commercialised?

there's a fair bit of that for sure, though i thought the problem was the wage bill. Lerner and the General certainly impled there was still money there for quality players once we could afford their wages. Seems they lied.

Come on Premier league, let's try and get that bell end's vulgar touch screen totalometer over £500,000,000.
Wouldn't that be just amazing?

And I can't wait for Bagpuss to pull off another midnight limelight stealing swoop. Yeah!
