way i see it we need 4 centre halves especially when 2 of 'em are collins and dunne. I'd keep Cuellar as selling him isn't going to bring much in either in transfer money or wages reduction

It's the cries of shooooooooooooooot! every time he goes near the ball that would annoy me more than whether he signed (Or whether he didn't to be honest).  If he did come back, I would of course reserve the right to claim I only shouted shooooooooooooooooooot! when he actually scored.

I'll put money on us signing Hitz now on a reasonable 2 year deal with a 1 year option by deadline day. He's not a game changer, but he'll add some depth and experience.

I'd honestly rather not bother and play one of the youngsters instead.
He'd better not play instead of Gardner for instance.

I agree with Mazrim's assessment. It would be an absolutely baffling move. We have two utterly untrustworthy first choice centre halves so we need Cuellar far more than we need Hitzelsperger. We need a midfielder unfortunately Hitzelsperger is not the type of mid we need and would only stand in the way of the likes of Bannan and Gardner.

We need pace and stamina in midfield. Basically, a Milner replacement. Hitzlsperger is NOT that player. I liked him, but no ta. I'd rather re-sign Solano and he must be about 53.

Is there not another, younger version of Shola knocking about.

If Petrov and/ Or Makoun are injured, and Ireland does not seem anymore interested than last season, we are left with Gardner, Bannan, Delph and Hogg. We have been here before, even with Young and Downing fully fit to help them out, and they struggled badly. Petrov cannot play every week, Makoun the jury is out on. The youngsters will still get game time, Hitz will simply add an experienced body in there. He played the deep role for Germany a few times too and he is more use than Petrov. I would prefer to have him than not, although I agree that losing Cuellar is a blow. I wonder if there is room should Cuellar leave to get 2 for his wages. Say a loan defender like Onourha and Hitz.

No Sammy. Highly rated at Newcastle I thought.

If we sign Hitz it's a clear sign that the mediocrity of the Ellis years are back, and it could be that Lerner is clearing the debts to sell. He tried but after the oil Arabs bought City the writing was on the wall. Maybe just maybe AM does have money to spend but is waiting for the end of period bargains, what i do know is that without a couple more good players and Hitz certainly isn't that we are going to have our work cut out to stay up.

I think you're  being far too pessimistic, Robbo. We're not going to be worrying the top 4, that's for sure, but equally we're not going to be relegation contenders.

If Cuellar goes, and I wish he'd just do it now instead of pissing us about, then we've got Clarke, Bsker and Beye as backup so we'll get by. I was never the greatest fan of Hitz but he looked god for West Ham last season so as an additional, experienced body I can see the sense.

The Daily Mail says we'll sign Hitzelsperger when/if we shift Cueller.

Christ, just what we need, another midfielder that disappears for large parts of the game.

Aston Villa join the race to sign French striker Trezeguet

By Sportsmail Reporter

Aston Villa have expressed interest in David Trezeguet.

The former Juventus striker, 33, is a free agent after leaving Hercules and has been linked with Swansea.

The Frenchman’s agent, Antonio Caliendo, claims Villa made an approach two weeks ago and talks are ongoing, but Napoli, Nice and Terek Grozny are also keen.

Trezeguet is chasing a two year contract and is understood to want £28,000 a week after tax.

Do we want another spent Frenchman?

I think hitz is a much better player now than he was when he left us and on a free he is worth bringing in- cuellar stills seems injured and I'd much prefer he stayed this season than to cash in at just £2m- if he gets in the team he may well impress mcleish and win a regular place and a new contract .

Surely we can at least make one loan or free transfer without having to unload more- we have seen a fair few high earners depart in recent months .
