Makoun worried me in the games I saw him play last season, for every great pass he made, and in fairness he did make a few, there were a lot of basic passes that went out of play etc. Hopefully he will be more used to the English game this season, and if he Ireland and Delph can hit form if could be very good to watch. But I hate how many hopefully and ifs we are relying on this season.

I agree, a lot of if's Ireland is moving to Birmingham this week hopefully that will help him improve his form

There is a way to many ifs',buts' and maybes' about our midfield this season. I think we will get murdered unless we sort out the central midfield issue. One quality player in there could make all the difference.
I think if the first few games go tits up, RL will have to splash the cash before the window closes.

It really is depressing that there are getable players out there but no longer the money or the ambition to get them. We were very lucky last year in the fact that we got a top striker in January out of the blue, if we hadn't we probably would have been relegated. We may not be so lucky this January if things come unstuck, we have let top players go and not replaced them, the squad is paper thin and any injury to Bent could spell disaster. Randy may want to cut back but take it too far and it is asking for trouble.

I still think Tommy Hitz and Barton on frees would sort us out in the short to medium term. Both have their failings, but both would get in our team comfortably at the moment, and Hitz has not gone anywhere else. Quite why Reo Coker was not simply re signed with someone like Hitz baffles me even more. It has been a strange, strange summer.

I'd love the option of NRC now. Makoun, Petrov and Delph worries me.

Defender Tyrone Mears's injury has forced manager Bolton manager Owen Coyle to look at bringing in Tottenham Kyle Walker on loan, according to Footie Online.

No chance. Spurs are looking like they are going to start with him this season. If he went to Notlob on loan for the season it would about finish me off.

M Diarra and Barton in the midfield would totally change this team round. Both on a free and the places in the league and runs in cups with these two in would pay there own wages. This would allow part roles for Delph, Bannan etc to gradually mould into the team. Both could be sold on and we could actually end up making money from them ..........

One of the problems is that there are so many uncertainties yet more than enough bodies. As much as I rate Petrov it might be better to lose him and buy someone that would guarantee us a certain amount of control in the centre - Parker? - yet not curtail the more risky (yet potentially higher reward) midfielders such as Bannan and Ireland.

You know what you'll get with Petrov though and his sale value would be small. Parker will be a no-go due to fee, age and wage demands. Easier said than done but we need to find a cheap version of Parker, if other clubs can do it it shouldn't be beyond us.

Perhaps loan moves for players out of favour such as Gago, Poulson, Diaby etc.

Diaby is out for months.

What is Muamba at Bolton up to now Reo Coker is in town?

Poulson or Gago on loan would be decent.

If the wage bill still can't be moved on, loans aren't going to be possible, either.

Depends how much their current clubs contribute. I think it's common for the wages to be shared.

A loan with a certainty that you are not lumbered with the contract would surely suit us and allow movement, indeed I would happily take Parker for 12 months on loan, cover his wages and pay a couple of million and be certain of having quality without a then 31 year old left with 2 years to run. If loans are out too, then someone has taken leave of their senses. When Eck was appointed we all said they had to back such a controversial appointment. They are seemingly intent on not doing so. Poor sod.
