Darren Bent - Transfer Fee
« on: January 25, 2011, 05:04:52 PM »
Hi all,

Does anybody have details of the actual fee/contract for DB? I have heard the press clippings about the 24m fee but does anyone have any real knowledge?

I know that it is 18 million initially rising to a possible 24m but what are the criteria for the higher fee? Does anybody know?

I personally think this is such a great signing for the club, not only have we signed arguably the best premiership goalscorer of the past 5 years (especially when you look at the clubs he has played for), it also shows that we are still an attractive club. I just wish that we had picked him up in the summer as I believe we would be challenging for the top four now if we had. We have been very unlucky in a lot of games this season, espcially the early part when we were losing or drawing games that with a decent goalscorer we would have won (We have also hit the woodwork more that any other team). I'm also really pleased he scored on Saturday as I didn't want him under any pressure because of his fee and I could just see the press getting at him if he hadnt scored in his first 3 games... A brace tonight please Sir Darren....

I'm guessing it's after x amount of goals, or england caps.

Presumably goals and England caps are part of it, but I also think it depends on how we do as a club i.e. we will have to be playing Champions League football before we have to give them the full £24 mill.

No idea but its only 24 mill if you need to make a derogatory point, 18 if you don't :)

Might even be if we finish above Sunderland too.
