I'd also hope that we'd retain at least some faith in our academy and in the local lads it's coughed up: players like Agbonlahor and Albrighton. Certainly I'd love to see a mix of the local lads and some international stars. But it would have to be a mix for me to really enjoy it. Otherwise it's soul-less, pointless and empty.
Or for Man City, the likes of say Micah Richards or Joe Hart?
Eh?
Not quite the same is it, Dave.
Gabby and Marc are local lads that have been with Villa since they were only a little more developed than sperm.
Richards is from Leeds and Joe Hart had no connection whatsoever with Manchester until they bought him a few years back. And are either of them Man Citeh fans? Doubt it.
My point being that, a few months ago, many people would have gladly had Tevez in the Villa side than Gabby. Me included. But now look at the ******. He doesn't want to be there. He doesn't want to play for them. He's there for the money. Pure and simple. Actually, it seems he's not just there for the money he's on now but the money he
could be on next week if he cries long and hard enough.
Stick what is by modern standards a modest contract in fron tof Gabby and what did he do? He signed the fucker. He's here for life and he'll love every minute of it, too.
There's a certain sense of pride for me that we've got stars in our side that are not only local lads, not only developed by Villa but are Villa fans. Sure, I'd love to have some of the players those pricks have pimped but certainly not a whole team of them and not at the expense of having some playing roots in the City where we're based.
