Apparently the team they played against West Brom cost them £19million and the more expensive players in it (Guttierez and Enrique were signed by previous managers). Even expensive players who were out were not signed by Hughton.

The man had done an excellent job. He just didn't deserve to be sacked.

Will MoN's Sunderland support stop him from taking it? Other than that I can clearly see him going there.

They must have somebody lined up. That will be interesting. Hope it's O'Neill and they get relegated.

MON isn't going to go somewhere where the owner has expressly said that there will be no investment in player acquisition beyond that which the club earns.

Great. Can't wait to watch MOTD on Saturday for Shearer's exclusive 'verdict' on it all.... sorry Alan, did you actually speak this time?

Daft decision. But then, this is why Newcastle are Newcastle. Slowly and solidly rebuilding themselves, and then they get ideas above their station.

Insane. This isn't a Newcastle loaded with star players like a few years back. They're doing solidly in the Prem this year, better than expected. Hughton hasn't been given a lot to spend from the rise to the Prem.

Craziness. He steadied an absolute mess of a ship and bought them up, and has them reasonably comfortable in the Prem. They'd have stayed up IMO, had they kept him on. Now? Who knows. If the get the wrong man in, or the players lose faith and let the higher power antics get to them, then there's trouble.

But do I really care? No. Hughton seems a decent bloke though, so I wish him luck.

Absolute madness.

Like others have said, I'm assuming they must have somebody else lined up.

If they have no money to spend MON won't go there, he was on the verge of leaving Celtic on many occasions, due to the lack of finances.

Unreal. He's done a superb job with very few resources. They walked the Championship despite all of their problems and will comfortably stay in the PL, and yet the comedy club that is Newcastle strike again. Another example of them acting way above their station. Get your custard pies ready.

Shearer the messiah to the rescue me thinks. Mike Ashley is a moron. Expect weeks and weeks of drama at the best supported football club in the world

I would love to know how this is going down on the passionate Toon messageboards. But I don't speak cretin, at least not fluently.
