Being the pedantic bastard that I am can I just point out that Clements '83 cannot enter the FA Cup as they don't have floodlights.

Surely that means the game will be moved to Stamford Bridge, meaning that Chavski will get another easy home draw.

Quote fail.

No, they literally are not allowed to enter the FA Cup, you must have floodlights to enter.

Have you not heard?

They have agreed to share Blues' new 90,000-capacity Porno Bowl, opening Summer 2327.

Must have floodlights...well there is a blatant case of undermining 138 years of tradition!

Quote fail indeed.  Spent 10 mins trying to rectify it including 4 mins downtime and then you point it out.....Anyway, lets say they were lucky losers in their league and suddenly got thrown into the competition in a Manny Omininye type way, then the FA suddenly realise at the third round stage they have no floodlights, Chelsea would get a bye.

Also, how do you factor in replays? Say for example a plucky non-league side gains a creditable draw against Man U in the 3rd round and this has happened twice in recent years, how will the seeding work then?

As I said after the  draw, that is pre-determined in any case, the two teams will  toss a coin for  home  advantage and therefore reply if required will be at the away teams  ground.

I think after the initial reaction you are all thinking about this and realise  that the idea has legs!!

sorry mate, but I think the idea is horrendous. The beauty of the cup draw is its unpredictability. That it can draw and has drawn many great ties where the unexpected becomes reality. The bigs teams don't need any more help than they already get, and if it means Liverpool vs Man U in the 3rd round, then the competition is all the better for it.

Yes  big humdingers like Manu v lpool is great but I am not thinking about big team and making it easier for them. I feel sorry for non leaguers who  make it to the 3rd round and end  up getting knocked out by 3rd and 4th division teams. For them  a gauranteed match against top  PL teams would be fantastic.

So if are midtable in the Conference with a few games to go with no chance of the play-offs or relegation you'd be better to play to lose so you finish as low as possible. That way you might end up with someone like Liverpool or Villa away while a team that finished above you would have to put up with Wigan away.

You could guarantee that within a couple of years you'd have a situation like in the League Cup where the novelty wears off for the lower divisions/non-league clubs because they get a 'big' draw every time they get that far and the seeded clubs start putting weakened sides out.

i think the best way to get the spark back into the domestic trophies is to only let the team who won the premier league and the runners up into the champions league and then the teams who win the league and fa cups have the remaining 2 places, it will rid us of the sky four and teams will not put half strength teams out and will want to win the trophies, if the same team wins the league and a trophy then the runner up will get the space! this is the best way forward.
