If id just lost a game to Villa, id've preferd to have lost to Villa aswell.

Yes, that's because you're a Villa supporter. Which is why people are so annoyed at GH saying that.
Im just guessing , but maybe GH is a Liverpool supporter.

anyway this is clogging the Generals thread .

General , sack him anyway !

I really hope that the words attributed to our manager is misquote. Because my blood is boiling right now. I want to give Houllier as much time to get this right as is reasonable, but if he really has come out with that, then we may as well put Sid and Macca in charge and move on. I really do hope he didn't say that.

Amongst all this sea of derision and contempt, I'll add another thing. I think Pelty's comments about Hogg in the match thread were a bit disgraceful for someone with obvious connections to the club. A lad making his third start for the club doesn't need to be criticised for being put in at the deep end and trying his hardest.

I completely agree for those reasons and also the fact there were far more deserving candidates.

Hogg is a victim of circumstance of our injuries and he is as somebody put it 'a baby'. Not much of a birthday for the lad.

Totally agree. The sort of comment I hear in the poub from people with no idea of what they are watching.

In fairness, regardless of his connections I don't think pelty has ever suggested that he speaks for the club.

He's as entitled to his opinion as anyone, even if I think he got it wrong there.
I have just read the match thread, and to be honest, I think he is right in the fact that we need NRC back soon. I also don't think Hogg played well tonight, but he ran his knackers off and gave his best, which is all you can ask.
Calling him a baby is juvenile, but its a throwaway comment IMO. Heat of the moment thing. I'd draw a line under it TBH

General

What do you make of the following comments attributed to our manager:

He added: "It's difficult to say but I prefer to lose 3-0 to Liverpool because I like Liverpool.

"I knew at 2-0 it would be difficult to come back. Had we scored maybe it would have been different.

"The first goal stunned us and the second one was vital because it meant the game was over. After that we took time to get back in the game. We didn't start playing.

"We finished the first half well and in the second half we did better. But we conceded a third goal on the break and that was it. Well done to Liverpool."

So our manager believes that being 2-0 down after 16 minutes means the game is lost?
Shame Alex Ferguson doesn't have such a losing mentality so as we'd be 4 points clear of the drop zone now.

I'm pissed off at his comments like everyone else but the bolded bit above is, by far, the most concerning. As PWS says, what kind of manager thinks this? 2-0 down. So the fuck what? Alex Ferguson wouldn't be giving up at 2-0 down with the official 90 minutes up!

What Houllier should have done is shoved several rockets up several arses at half time. Seems to me that he probably told our players that it's all over, just go out there, have fun, try not to get too cold.

And for that, much more so than his comments about their fans, our fans, whatever, has done it for me.
If he's willingly conceding football matches at 2-0 with plenty of time left, then he needs to settle into his armchair, pull the blanket up over his legs and get the missus to fetch him some tea. His time in football is over.

What is the hidden meaning contained within?

I need a good laugh after tonight.

If he said before the game you'd have something to shout about.

As he said it after what does it matter, he's got affection for Liverpool he probably would rather be beaten by Liverpool than anybody else .

as for the numbnuts  ....  jesus.

The manager of Aston Villa football club should be equally upset / angry at losing to any team. It is unacceptable that defeat  hurts less because he used to manage them.

He is employed as our manager.  We should be the be all and end all for him.  The fact that we aren't is an utter disgrace

General,

I thought Houllier was doing a decent job considering the circumstances and was quite optimistic about the future under him until tonight.

His actions and post match comments were a disgrace.

I'm not threatening to say I'll stop going or making any kneejerk reactions, but I hope you appreciate that as a club we are bigger than being treated by that. He is not a Villa man and he clearly doesn't appreciate the honour of being Aston Villa manager.

Thanks for your time.

There are many threads on which to debate the match and the manager. This isn't one of them.

General,

Do you eat Sausage Sandwiches? If so do you have Red Sauce, Brown Sauce or no sauce at all?

Also, if your favourite is red sauce, but you begrudgingly choose brown (as red is not in the cupboard), do you eat the daddy's sandwich, whilst nostalgically gushing with your fondness for all things tomato based?

Edit - winky thing

I could swear the Generals been asked that before, so hears a new one:

General,

Obviously the song Ceremony is an excellent one, thats a given.

My question to you is do you prefer the Joy Division or New Order version of the song?

Its a toughie for me.  I think the New Order one is possibly the better technical version, but Ian Curtis seems to make it more emotionally affecting in the Joy Division version.

once again general i draw your attention to your words last week 'when fit we have a squad capable of great things'.

Please realise that mr houllier likes a totally different style of passing football to that of mr o neill - to play the houllier way would mean almost a total rebuild of the team and squad and cost huge amounts of money!

Yes , mr houllier can take us higher but if the board are not able to back massive and i mean massive investment financially to totally rebuild and start from almost scratch then houllier does not stand a chance.

Maybe if the money is not there in such huge amounts it would be advisable to come clean and perhaps install mr houllier as director of football  and martin jol as coach and see what he can do with players at his disposal.

mr houllier can get it right but would need lots of time and cash - can randy achieve this? or was mr o neill aware that randy couldnt provide the finace needed anymore .im grateful for what randy has invested but maybe he doesnt have a bottomless pit in the changed financial climate we are now in?

Also im concerned we will always be 2nd best to randys love of the browns , aston villa should be getting all of his attention right now , finally although i like what houllier is trying to do i find his lack of respect to aston villa fans by waving at and thankin only liverpool fans after the game totally and uttterly deplorable!

With respect,I would rather know why our manager felt that he had the right to humiliate/belittle our club last night

general,

he has to go!!  Martin Jol is now available and it wont cost the club a penny to get him.  Houllier has to go.  i have lost all respect for him after last night.  And i dont think the players are bad players i just dont think they want to play for him.  And last nights actions were a disgrace!!

1) Touching the Anfield sign when you are the opposition manager ( i know it dont matter , but RESPECT )
2) waving to the kop and doing nothing to the villa supporters that travelled all that way in that terrible weather
3) thanking the liverpool fans in the pre match interview and nothing about villa
4) coming out with that comment , i would rather loose to liverpol because i like them

shall i go on ??

I gather he will be spoken to today ?

Good final point there but does the same not apply to the chairman as well, Aston Villa should be his top priority too and the be all and end all, living abroad and giving equal tor more time ans attention to another team and sport is not ideal at this moment in time.

General, now the unpleasantness is out of the way and forgotten about, may I ask about your Christmas Tree: Real or fake? How tall is it? And how the hell do you find which of the lights is causing the outage?
