As Dave made clear in other threads those in the know know exactly what a shit O'Neill is.

I must have missed this.  What is the meant to have happened?  And where has this knowledge come from?
Please tell what you can (without risking a law-suit).

At Dave's request, I'll leave it there.

Fair enough. Let's give peace a chance.

Accepted, apologies from me too.

I wasn't offended. The hardest thing is trying to respond how one would really like to without getting banned haha! Sometimes I wish they'd let us have an 'anything goes' argument. Then again, it's probably for the best they don't. No hard feelings.

Make of this what you will but I was told last week that he was told the size of the transfer budget and of the need to move players on in May and was set to walk then (and apparently in retrospect wishes he had) but thought he could persuade the chairman over the summer that he should make more funds available to him and when this didn't happen he went. The source is a relatively normal nose who met a friend of O'Neill's at a wedding reception so take it with as much salt as you see fit.

Regardless of what we think of O'Neill, he's going to be hard pushed to find a new club with much to spend in this financial climate.
I can't see Newcastle shelling out much under Ashley and I don't think Liverpool are inclined to go mad either.

As Dave W has said Liverpool is a non runner for him.

Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal - absolutely no chance

City if Mancini goes - he will be a long way down the list I reckon.

Everton if Moyes goes perhaps but then again no real money there

Newcastle not unless Ashley sells to a sheik - arabs arent that stupid

west ham - no money

sunderland perhaps - think they will struggle this season despite their victory at the weekend. Really thought apart from Onouha in particular and Henderson that they were a poor side.

I cant think where he will go really especially with Uefa's 70% wagecap coming in. To be honest I think in British football circles his name is dirt after his antics this summer and even though his star was on the wane anyway, he really has noone to blame but himself. As a manager its abroad he needs to go anyway like McClaren to pick up new ideas.

I really can't imagine him working abroad.  He'd probably take a few hundred tins of Heinz beans with him, you wouldn't catch him eating any of that foreign muck.

So he didn't say a great deal then.

I am somewhat surprised that none of the folks who left have said anything. If it was an unexpected walk out, and I have no reason to question the board on the fact they were surprised by the timing, then seems it a bit odd to me that they would have nailed the lot of them down to confidentiality clauses.

Oh well.

Wouldn't be surprised with that Joe whatsoever. He certainly has a habit of walking out on clubs when he doesn't get his own way, but even at that what a spoilt brat. He was given millions to spend and pissed some of it up the wall on absolute trash.

I suspect the reason we haven't heard Martin's reasons for leaving is that it wouldn't reflect well on him if we did.

The fact that he walked out before the new season or 3 consecutive 6th placed finishes with a side that was nearly relegated a few years before it. Throw in a Carling Cup final and an FA Cup Semi-Final and the signings of like Ashley Young. Someone in the Premier League will take a chance with him. You can be rest assured about that.

Which is why I imagine Mr. O'Neill has been very quiet and secretive over this. He'll be looking to explain his reasons for walking out to the new chairman, owner, whatever and ensure it stays out of the public media.

Perhaps we already have the full story and everything is now being repeated ad nauseam.

I'm loving his history of Britain programme though.

3 consecutive 6th placed finishes aint all that for the money he spent. Consider 'arry redknapp 2 points from 8 games who took Spurs into the Champs League or Moyes who took Everton ahead of us and also into the Champions League places. Paul Jewell can throw in an unsuccessful carling cup final on his cv, Fa Cup semi final we really are pushing the boat out to be honest. You could also mention our disastrous europe misadventures and other cup woes if you wanted to be balanced about our cup record under MON.

Fact is he took us no higher in the league than Atkinson, Little, Gregory or O'Leary. The first three have better cup records. Little took us to 4th and 5th yet didnt pick up a decent job after. MON was bankrolled to the hilt to take us into the Champions League. Gave it a decent shot but failed. Left behind a wage bill spiralled out of control and an aging unbalanced squad - similar to his time at Glasgow Celtic. Gordon Strachan and Alex McLeish took their respective SPL sides further in the Champions League too. The myth of MON and his delusional sense of self worth has been exposed at Villa Park. Maybe he 'has realised his self worth at this stage' as he said he needed to after the 7-1 defeat at Chelsea.

To be honest after the self interested chancers we have had at the helm - Gregory, DOL, MON its almost a relief to have someone genuine. We all have our doubts about Houllier but he has assembled a good backroom team, given everyone a decent shot trying to play better football and lets see in January what he can bring in. We could surprise this season yet I reckon.
