I think they can afford the player with this season CL money, but very risky having a player who demand well well over 100k a week if they don't make CL next season.

It's a big difference to us a few seasons back.

If we talk relatively spurs have a slim chance of the title and a decent chance of securing CL again, they are now trying to recruit players who would improve them.

When we were in the same sort of position 8 points clear of Arsenal, we never bought anyone who improved us, we got Heskey. (although arguably our best player this season).

Imagine if we could have had Gerrard in charge of transfers when Martin was here.

I thought Mancini's comments on Bale were interesting...

Personally, I think Bale's transformation from shit left back to excellent left winger is the thing that made Spurs from also rans into top four contenders. Moreover, any old fool could tell you a left back who attacks well but doesn't defend well might be best sampled on the left wing. That coupled with a shit Liverpool gave them 4th place.

I also think they will sell him in the Summer.

How does turning down offers for your best playes and wanting to buy another make you a joke?

What's the joke?

The joke is 12 months ago no-one gave a monkeys (pun not intended) about Gareth Bale.

Every man and his dog said he couldn't defend, was inconsistent, questioned him if he was worth the money Spurs paid for him and to top it off had this daunting stat that he hadn't won a Premier League game for Spurs (correct me if i'm wrong...). INB4 ppl tell me he was upgraded to LW.

How do you go from that to be valued more than £40M and considered the 5th best player in the world in the space of 12 months? Mind boggling.

It's insane they've turned down that sort of money for Bale yet they're willing to spunk £30M on Llorente who would be a flop in the Premier League.

He'll be off to Madrid in the summer as he'll be Real's latest fancy boy and it'll be the last we'll ever hear of him until he returns to the Premier League in 2/3 years time after having a bad time in Madrid only to sign for Newcastle.

Maybe, but he's still a shite left back and wing back so there are many better than him at that position.
That's why Assou Ekotto plays there and not Bale.
