Emir Spahic might view things differently now that this bid for Bent has been made. Absolutely no way in hell is GH getting dismissed with the support he's getting from PF/RL in smashing our transfer record. I understand that Spahic was waiting to see if GH was still to be at Villa. Charlie Adam, hopefully would be smashing down our door to come and join this er, once famous club!!

Just got home, day too busy to check football stuff, go on Guardian sport and I see that about Bent. What a welcome home!

A couple of years ago now I got into an argument on here about Bent. I said I thought that, while a great finisher, he didn't have enough in his game to make it at the top level. Since then, however, Bent has improved immeasurably, to the extent he can play as a lone striker in an attacking set-up (as opposed to the counter-attacking lone striker role he filled at Charlton). Besides, we know how GH wants us to play, so I'll trust his judgement on Bent's qualities for now. To be honest, even if he was just the finisher of old that would be enough to keep us up, and anyway he's more than that now so fine.

One way or another, it's an hilarious 'fuck yous' to the media "Villa are skint" bollocks campaign they've been on. Even just before the Makoun deal I was seeing "Villa have no money" in places. £20m on one player says it all really.

One final thing - GH does seem to get his man, doesn't he? Makoun is a serious player, as are Bent and Adam and even Walker. Gone are the balls days of MON signing Sidwell or some shit. This is more like what we expected when Randy came in, albeit likely to be offset by some sales around the place (Ireland going would bring something in, for instance). Good stuff.

Matt Kendrick says its a four and a half year deal- nothing more on whether we've signed.

I imagine he already knew it was a four and a half year deal a while back. Hence why I think we've done an 'arry. Not that I give a shit!

We also need to unload a few players now whether these all happen or not.
I hope Ireland goes in exchange along with a few others. We will have enough with the youngsters then although one more surprise would be nice.
Piennar is a steal at £3m but I guess he is not what we need most.

Ireland, Warnock, Davies and Carew will all leave this window imo.

Not sure how much cash we'll get though with loans being mentioned.
