Adebayor is top quality.....but i reckon a nightmare to work with. Elamander is'nt a patch on him for ability, but i would probably prefer him tbh.

Linked with M'Vila in the Mail again today.

Elmander not the same quality? Have you seen some of his goals this season, he is playing quality now he has confidence.

That M'Vila does look quality. So fingers crossed.

RSC has had 1 decent goalscoring season in a 13 year professional playing career. Honestly I think it's mental how he always gets linked to big moves.

Anyone see that funny link of John Carew to Athletic Bilbao?

As far as I'm aware, the only link Carew has with Basques is what he sees in the rocket club!

my worry with Elmander is that he has found his feet just before his contract expires

I wouldnt buy him because of his age, but we need someone who is gonna stay upfront and get on the end of chances.
We need a Bent type player who isn't constantly drifting out wide. Rooney scores all his goals last season because he changed his game to be always in and around the box.
We either need too teach Gabby or buy someone proven.

The contract thing is an issue but what he did against Wolves was absolutely brilliant. If we could get that quality out of him consistantly he'd be a great addition.

If we could sell Carew for £1m in Jan and ship his 60k a week off the bill we'd save about £2.5m, put that towards Elmander (who'd cost £3m max) and he'd have a bigger sell on even if he flopped.

Issue about RSC is the wages he would want. He's also quite injury prone and has only had one decent season.

Elmander is 29, i'm not a big fan of signing players approaching 30, but he's on fire and I reckon £3m-£4m would get him, I think he'd give us a much needed boost for the second half of the season.
I'd llove to See Ashley and Gabby playing off him.

RSC to me seems like another player that has one good season goes to a bigger club with better players and doesn't cut it. Suprised Elmander is 29 maybe for continuity we have to look elsewhere. I wonder when he was being inteviewed whether GH was told we want  players that will bring the crowds in?

I dont doubt it Robbo. The General will have listened to complaints about the bums on seats aspect to many of MONs signings and will feed that back.

Obviously we should consider the team first and though many might not pay to see M'Vila play, he will, you'd think, be the type of player to improve our fortunes.
That said, if we're after a striker, why not make him a wow signing that will bring crowds in at the same time.

I would steer well clear of Rocque Santa Cruz. Good player though he is on his day, he isnt what we need and I think that one golden season he had at Blackburn might have been unique for him (as Elmander's current form might be for him). The last thing we need is another player we cant guarantee will be able to walk from one day to the next or a player we're scratching our head at wondering why he isn't as good for us as he was for Blackburn/Bolton/whoever.
If we had to speculate on a player I'd sooner they were younger. Otherwise just get as near to a sure thing as we can.

Completely agree with this Maz. Defensive midfielders aren't really ever going to pull in crowds, even the likes of Yaya Toure and Sergio Busquets, but they can be the difference between winning and giving away late equalizers!! There are a glut of DM coming through the French acadamies at the moment and you'd hope with his contacts and reputation, GH would be able to get one of them to come to the Villa. M'Vila certainly looks to be the pick of the young bunch.
After our distinct lack of firepower and finishing of late, I really think we need to spend big on our next striker, getting rid of Carew and Heskey will free up plenty from the wage budget and I wouldn't be adverse to it all going to one very special player, if we can still attract one.

I suppose thats why i'm so optimistic this time, i really depaired of most of the football we played under MON and already can see the startings of what could be a very good side playing decent football, you know the type when you can pass to a teamate on a consistant basis. I'ts going to be tough with all the injuries but we will come good.

This is the key.  With Randy likely to back Gezza and the Milner/Shorey/Gardner money still floating around, affording players isn't our issue, but getting them to sign is, especailly if we finish in the bottom half.

"From bag A (players likely to move) we have David Bentley and from bag B (clubs likely to be signing players) we have Aston Villa.  That's three column inches filled.  The rest we'll just write about the royal wedding."
